Nice to meet you too! This is the first message board where I have run into anyone who lives remotely close to me! (And i've been on lots of different kinds of msg boards!) Heck, we could do lunch! You've heard of Lincoln? Curran? Glennie? I'm living in the swamp about halfway between them! I'd mention the village name but some people hear it and just shake their heads (apparently, the drinking around here is scandalous!

Welcome runamuck and swampducks. Steve, what a beautiful area to have a cabin. I live just out of Rogers City, I have lots of chickens, I used to have ducks, but gave them to my sister in law down the street. I loved them though. But they needed a pond, and she has one. We will have to find a middle point and get together this summer. Ah summer where art thou!!!! I, like everyone, wants Spring to start soon. Anyway welcome, this is a great site for info. I would be lost without it. Come back often

Getting together could be fun! My neighbor (duck/dog sitter) has relatives in RC I believe. At least he and his wife pop up there now and then for some sort of family party. Hmmm, now that I think about it I think they originally lived in RC! I'll have to ask him tomorrow to confirm it.

Yes we have a big hole in the ground LOL. I have lived here 23 years. I moved here from Montana. My hubby is from Rogers. I do love the area. We live just 1 mile from Lake Huron, and in the woods. I absolutely love the area. Set a time to get together and I am there!!!

Keep that in mind for next summer. Might be a good place (Marina) to get together for a picnic with the Michiganders up your way.....looks to be several not too far from the area.

Hi I am from the UP of MI about 2 1/2 hours from the bridge in a little town called Gladstone (7 miles from Escanaba). I will be ordering ISA brown chicks on April 30th to arrive the 20 something of May. I am in the planning stage for my coop and will be searching and searching for any and all info on coops that will put up with our weather (in the last month and a half only a handful of days above 0). Thanks for such a great site I just wanted to say hi. And any advice will be welcomed. jean (freezing) in UP of MI

I haven't been to the UP in years, it sure is beautiful. I find it cold enough down here in the Alpena area though, I can't imagine living any further north. As I'm originally from central MA and lived in CA and VA I never figured I'd be even this far north.

I'm planning on using the 8' x 8' layer house design http://www.ext.vt.edu/pubs/poultry/factsheets/designs.html from the VA Tech Co-op Extension service. We'll run an electric cord from the house to it in the cold weather.

I asked my neighbor if he knew anyone in RC named Gail. Said he did. Apparently he was born and raised in RC and he and his wife lived there for quite a few years before they moved down here.

I don't like using last names on line, but do you know anyone named Louis?

Hi Michiganders!! I am fairly new to the board also. I live just south of Lansing. We have mini donkeys, mini goats, rabbits, cats, dogs, a guinea pig, 2 call ducks and 2 roosters left over from last years 4-H project.

We have decided to keep chickens full time and have some arriving on the 10th and some in the incubator right now! I am also hoping to get a couple of geese. Anyone in MI have American Buff's? Or even better, American Blue's? Anyway, glad to meet so many other Mi chicken lovers!!

zookeeper, wish I had a nickle everytime I went through Gladstone. I lived/farmed in the UP for 22 years. On the Garden Peninsula, my brother lives in Rapid River and a nephew lives in Escanaba. I still get up there several times a year to visit.

Vicki, we must be neighbors, I'm also south of Lansing....and a little west.
