I just came in from working in the shop. I just finished building a brooder top incorporating the thermostat and heating element from an old incubator and now I'm waiting to see how much heat it generate and if it will be sufficient to heat an 18x18x18 box. I was also rubbing more wax into the wood of the Hoosier cabinet that I'm restoring. All that wipe on wipe off got me wanting a coffee break.

Olive Hill, where are you located? There is a farm/greenhouse about 5 or 6 miles for me that I know has 3 pairs of peacocks. I could go there and see if they might have any fertile eggs or chicks.

Olive Hill - Colasanti's (a market in Highland) has several adults, I've heard of them giving/selling eggs to schools. I'm not sure what kind they are though and I don't know that the people that own the market now know much about the birds, but it may be worth a call.

I've got my first pip in the incubator!!! It's my first time so I'm so excited!! Hubby called while I was out riding and said, "I heard something, it was your egg". I rushed right home to see a little tiny crack that took me a good minute to find!!

Well a little time-out earlier in the big chick brooder seems to have mellowed out my aggressive Polish brat. It may be temporary, but I think being the one huddled in a corner was good for it. No problems now in the mini-brooder. If he starts up again, I will isolate him and he can be a sad sad chick. Or not. Perhaps he will be happy to be on his own again.

The day was so beautiful. I cleaned the coop out, put down fresh pine shavings and then dumped the nest box and put in fresh hay. Then i got real energetic and went and bought a zillion bags of mulch and filled up the soggy chicken yard. Ungrateful hens have been complaining loudly ever since. But they have the FULLEST crops I have ever seen on them. They spent the afternoon digging in the compost pile in the back corner of the yard. They really waddle like ducks now they are so full.

Now my hubby wants dinner and Im so sore I can barely move. Bad body so out of shape a little yard work almost killed me

Opa -- We're about 20 miles northwest of St. Johns. I'm in Lansing a couple of times per week though so Howell isn't too far. I'd certainly appreciate it.

sevenchickens -- Thanks for the tip. I'll try looking them up.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Sunday. We spent the day outside and it was so nice to be able to do that without freezing. We got lots of spring projects started and a few more up our sleeve. All in all a great day!

Hey Michiganders!! My sons favorite Serama Roo passed away

. He was 5 years old. Austin handled this bird to the point that he would bring him in and Kaazam would literally curl up to Austin and sleep or "nuzzle" him. Needless to say Austin was devastated. He still has 2 hens still and would like another roo. Does anyone have one that doesnt cost an absolute fortune? The girls he has are AB in size. If anyone has a red type simular to the pic of Kazaam that would be AWESOME.

RIP Kaazam you will be missed very much.

Just got looking at the pic of him and it isnt the greatest. This must of been a pre or post molt looking at the wryness in his tail feathers. He really looked much better......Had to add this cuz Austin said it was a bad picture. lol.

Abbey he was a really pretty guy. So sorry he is gone.

What a beautiful day. Got some work done outside. Used the tractor to put sand in some low spots in the path out to the coops. And cleared the spot for the new coop. Next weekend it will be time to build a hoop house and get the turkeys seperated. I even dried some clothes out on the line. Felt like spring today.

I hope it sticks around.

Forgot my camera at my daughter's house. Will get it Wed. I also have a special egg I wanted to post pictures of, so that will have to wait, also.
