I got my foot cast off yesterday after 8+ weeks. Glad to have that gone!

I went out to the coops and visited everyone with treats. When I got to the coop with the 8 week olds, it sounded like someone strangling a cat. It was the little bantam barred rooster, all 8 oz. of him, learning to crow. I love this time when roosters are learning to crow. We still have a little cochin cockerel who goes "Cock a do do". So cute!

Hi everyone! I sure wish it was not so gloomy today. I just want to curl back up under the blankets. Thankfully my BLRW don't feel that way. We had our first egg this morning!

I am so excited. Now I'm wondering how long before the boys are doing there jobs. Hmmm. I'd sure love to have some more BLRW eggs in the bator.

Rachel just brought in a chicken with sour crop. Luckily it was a bantam so easy to hold and get all the fermenting grass out of her crop...quite disgusting! Rachel didn't have the stomach to continue after the first bit of stuff came out, so I finished the job. She is drinking and walking around the rec room/garage now.

Off to get some housework done....

iluvcks, I have 2 silkies in the big girl coop. They hold their own quite well with them. And they roost on the top roost, which is five foot off the floor. I have a ladder that goes up to the first roost and they hop up to the top one. Everyone says they don't roost, but I guess they follow the big girls.

Good morning everyone!

All today is good for is cleaning house and getting laundry done.

Zephyrcreek...how do you like your BLRWs? I just set some BLRW eggs a couple of days ago...I can't wait for those to hatch.

Well, I'm off to check the hatcher. Got some breeder Delaware eggs pipping today.

Then I'm taking my son outside to let him play, play, play in the mud, mud, mud!

Nope...it's open to everyone. But you best get there before daylight if you wanna see/buy anything.

Thanks. I was asking more for my brother. He is into pheasants and the like.

I went there last year to pick up some chicks from John Blehm...got there before daylight myself. There were folks walking around with flashlights...shining them into the cages to see the birds. I'm sure a few buyers were surprised when they got their purchased birds home and saw them in the light.

my BLRW!!!

They are the sweetest birds I have ever been around. When they were younger they would fight for my attention. If I did not start petting one as soon as I opened the door, they would fly up onto my shoulder. If I still ignored them they would jump on my head knowing that drives me crazy. I don't mind a little chicken poo on my shoulder, but no way is my hair getting poo in it!! They seem to be going through that teenager phase right now as the hormones start kicking in and are not as interested in me anymore except for food. I noticed my Dels went through the same phase. The Dels were even freindlier after than before which is saying a lot. Hopefully the BLRW will be the same.
