hey steve have you checked craigslist? You could go into the farm&garden area and place a wanted ad. I know the job search must suck in mich but its not as bad as jersey. I may work on her grandparents farm. I am a jersey cowboy lol

I tried to talk Hal (DH) into building mine at least 8 x 10. He didn't see it, he thought 6 x 8. I got him to settle for 8 x 8. At least the duck coop will be separate, so that 's something. I'm going to put a small run outside it with a cover when I'm not home and let the chickens free range in the yard when I am home. I'm mostly home (unless it's summer and I'm kayaking!!) so the chickens should be pretty happy I think.

Stevie, you'll like St. Johns. Very nice area. Lots of open area still. Let us know if you need help with anything. Krisrose is getting real good at building things!!

Hey that sounds like a good idea for us to get together and meet up. Might be something interesting to buy, and could have a lunch somewhere.

Just a thought.

Sounds great! Only thing is, I am one of a couple adults that are helping the kids put it on. So I will probably be running around most of the day!

By the way, it is from 8-2 at the back of the fairgrounds near the campground. There should be all kinds of chickens, ducks, rabbits, other livestock, supplies, etc. There will also be food and raffles!

FYI - Family Farm and Home in Mason has chicks!!! WOOO HOOO!! I stopped in there today, just because I was in the area and was suprised to see chicks!! Our TSC and Soldans are not getting chicks until mid April.

They had Isa Browns, Buff Orpingtons, Americauna, Black Australorps, and a couple more, I can't remember them all. Oh and a tub full of mixed ducks. Poor things, their whole tub was wet and they were shivering.

So, amazingly, I resisted! Mainly because I have chicks arriving next tuesday, my 8 and another 8 that will live here until fair, plus 3 on backorder, again, living here until fair and possibly after. 20 eggs in the bator, 3 geese arriving the 26th and 20 chicks more that I ordered, waiting to hear when they will arrive. Just what I need is more chicks, a different age. How many brooders can I have running??? Hmmmmm.................

I got up and read this thread early this morning and made a decision.....after reading the above post by vicki I headed over to Mason and.......bought.....my first chicks!

.....pics coming later.

Steve, I knew you would get chicks from Mason! Good breeds to have...good layers. If you have kids, they'll love the colored eggs from the EEs. Hope to see pics soon. Good Luck with the fuzzy butts!

Astralorps are really good layers, also, so head back and get a couple of those too!!!

This is so unfair!! I've never known the Alpena TSC to have chicks for sale. But then it is a 45 minute drive and I can't just drop in to check!!

And I've got a question. Is it the norm for feed stores to just have chicks for sale and hope enough people will buy them? My feed store takes orders for 2 months and then has all the chicks arrive in May (21st this year). So as far as I can tell, all the chicks are spoken for.

For me it was an advantage last year because I ordered 4 ducklings in March and then decided to come back in a couple weeks later and added 2 more ducklings to the same order. It is so long to wait though!
