Usually feed stores just order in chicks and you buy what you want. I notice that last year TSC was only taking orders of 25, limited varieties, and would ship them directly to the store where you would pick them up.
Our local independent feedstore, Big Acre, had chicks where you could buy just the amount you wanted.

The feed store here has chicks for any one who wants them. I think the TSC takes orders. It's dangerous to have chicks out in the open that way. People fall in love with them and that's how I ended up with chickens!! Well, with more chickens...lol.

Okay, first, yes Vicki the ducks looked to much happier and were quite active.

Sorry chickflick for not waiting to run up and pay you a visit while shopping at Big Acre, maybe next time.

I got them all brought home and in their brooder, my wife couldn't wait to give them a look when she was home on her lunch break. I hope she likes them.

And lastly.....I think I have enough for now, Thank You.

Thanks, I appreciate that Carole. You might want to check out my main site too HERE . I have a partner that lives down in Texas, and we have a lot of good information on that site. Thanks!

Hi Tororider,

These places aren't quite in your vacinity but if you get desperate enough you just may make the drive.

Hamiltons Feed store in Ortonville-call for list of chicks.

Big Acre in Davison. There is also a guy who sells chicks out there-Dave?-Can't quite remember. He has a farm.Someone will know who he is if you ask.

The feed store in Milford/Highland-not sure if you had to order them first.

Tractor Supply in Ortonville(brand new store( is getting some-call for info.

Hope this feeds your habit!

I wonder if there are any down 59 past Milford/Heartland area? Anyone know?

Have any of you been to the swap meet in Imlay City? I was just wondering about it. Is it big? Do you have to be really careful about what you buy there? Seems like I read somewhere here that sometimes people bring sick birds. Which is better- this meet or the Charlotte meet?

Chickflick and I went to the meet in Imlay last year. I did'nt see any sick birds but that does'nt mean anything. It was a nice size and I wanted a pair of peafowl real bad. I have never been to Charlotte so I can't compare.

The swap meet in Charlotte will be very similar to the one in Imlay City. Hopefully both will have a large turn out. The Charlotte one is a fundraiser for 4-H kids though, so if that helps swing your vote, all the better.

Practically speaking, with the price of gas, probably whichever is closer!

The Alpena Tractor Supply has sold chicks in the past. They take orders (have the booklets out for ppl to choose from). Can't remember who they order from. Don't think it was Townline. I think there is a 25 minimum.

I know in the past I have gone in there and seen chicks and ducklings in large metal water troughs for cattle. Had a close call with a duckling there a couple years ago.....lol.

I don't know what they are doing this year as far as chicks. I have avoided going in. I have chicks in the brooder 4 wk olds and a couple 10 day olds and a full bator at the moment.

I was at Miller Feeds Friday and bought more feed. Seeing my bill I though man I need a cheaper hobby...lol. Then I came home and put eggs in bator #2. It's a sickness what can I say. I did notice Millers had out the the stuff to order chicks from Townline for May 21 delievery.

I was almost tempted to ask if the chick starter I was buying now qualified me for the free meat chicks, but thought better of it. I usually send my extra cockerels to freezer camp and figure with all my hatching I will have enough to keep me busy butchering. I got more cockerels than I hoped in my batch of marans I hatched out.

I've had really bad luck with shipped eggs this winter. Lots of broken/smashed eggs. Which means the surviving eggs are often times scrambled inside. Then I had a severe temperature spike on a bator of my own chicks and many died the last week of incubating. Very frustrating.

Sorry , now I'm starting to rattle on.

Julie
