I'm sorry to hear of so many misfortunes. I hope things start turning around for those of you that have had a difficult time.

Opa-beautiful lil' chicks.

I was really disappointed today by a local woman that owns and runs what is mainly a pet food store but in the spring she orders chicks. I always thought of her as a true animal lover. I knew she was supposed to get the chicks in today and seeing how its spring and I already have a full brooder I figured I would stop and take a look. When I got there this morning at 10:00 (you know how cold it was) the chicks were still in their shipping boxes sitting on a cold cement floor with no heat source at all. When she said she had picked them up early this morning the only thing I could think of was that I should take the boxes and run. I felt terrible for those poor little peepers. My faith in humanity continues to dwindle. On the plus side...it was sunny and tomorrow is going to be 70!!!

Oopsy, I am so sorry to hear about the theft of your chickens. That is just awful!
Chickflick and Opa, what breed is that cute little chick that Chickflick is getting?
sevenchicks, I understand about your faith in humanity dwindling but then when I get on BYC the faith improves as there are so many nice folks here.
Zephyrcreek, I hope you get to enjoy your few days off and not work too hard.
I hope everyone is getting to enjoy this wonderful weather we are having.

How many of you know what time the post office is open? I still don't know for sure but I do know that they are open at 420. I didn't get to sleep until around 2am because I kept checking the new chicks. Since none of yesterday's arrivals belonged to me I was more concerned than normal. A couple of years ago I lost some chicks when the night time temperature plunged and the heat lamp was to high to maintain the necessary temperature. So given how it seemed as if I had just laid down, I was a little surprized to see the time on the clock when I answered the phone.
Your chicks are here and can be picked up at the back down said the disembodied voice on the line. Hurriedly I dressed and headed for the post office. Now back home and trying to get a couple of cups of coffee down before getting busy with hydrating chicks. Bluemoon said to call when they come in no matter the time, but I think I will wait awhile before calling her. At least let her enjoy a little more night before having to get started.

Wow, Opa. You are gonna be one tired dude today! Great that the post office let you know that the chicks were in, tho, instead of waiting till later! Hope you gave them a hug! Have a good day all....off to visit with the grandbabies.

Opa that was an early call from the post office. Maybe the peeping was driving them nuts and wanted them picked up.

Well 22 out of the 23 eggs hatched and so far all are doing well.

I have a bit of a roo situation. I have gotten 5 beautiful rowdy black mottled cochins from Michelle almost 4 weeks ago. The problem is 3 of them are gonna be roos. I can deal with one. Usually we would just butcher extra roos but these guys are gonna be so pretty and they are bantams, I just can't do it. So I am offering them for free to anyone who my want one. Just come pick it up.

My FiILstopped in yesterday, which isn't unusual due to they live down the driveway. But he was wondering when we were gonna put the second coop up? Long story short he has offered to buy us a prebuilt shed for the coop. I tried to say no, but he is insisting because we give them chickens to eat all the time. I think they will get a turkey too this year.

OH MY GOSH! I am so sorry! That is absolutely horrible. I will have to make sure to let my DH know as he sells stuff on Craigslist all the time and thinks nothing of having strangers come to the house.
