Huston's Happy Hens :

Remember we lost Hershey about a month ago...Savannah has been lonely, but now that we have this little rescue pup, we're not SO sure!
The other dogs in the background are from the foster home.....our Savannah is in the second pic.

Thanks Teach!

LMChicks - here's a pic of our new babe - She's a PIT BULL - doesn't she look MEAN! They are the best breed IF they are not trained to fight - they are loyal and smart! the first pic is Georgia in her foster home and the 2nd pic is Georgia at home with Savannah. She is the cutest little darlin and loves to be with Savannah all curled up!

She is so CUTE!!!!!!!!!!!!! I remember seeing her pic a few days ago when you posted! Both of your pups look so precious laying there together

Soooo sweet!!! I can imagine she can be a handful though

If you view my BYC page you'll see pics of our Bulldog. People always thinks she's a pit bull. She's 125 pounds of pure love

I remember when she was a puppy - MAN o MAN!!! We actually had two at that time and they were a handful! 2 huge cages in the living room also, whew! Glad that's overwith.

Where did you rescue from? I had been looking diligently at rescue's, Craigslist, shelters and Petfinder.com. Finally found Sarah Jane on petfinder. She belonged to an elderly couple who passed away

I was able to stop by Opa's yesterday with the boys and see all the new digs and check out all of your guys new chicks. As always, Opa was awesome and even sent us home with some "kid sized eggs". The boys enjoyed them for breakfast today. And I got to meet Granny, a great visit. Thanks again Opa.

Good morning everyone!! Did I see Speckled Sussex chicks? I HAVE to get some chicks. I mean it too. It is the only breed my husband requested and if I don't get some this year I will be in trouble. Anyone please pm me if you will have speckled susex chicks and are going to chickenstock. We are going and it would be a great suprise for him if I was able to get some.

I just got home from meeting with Opa, Oopsie, Crazy Chicken Fever, and a whole bunch more I cannot remember right now.
We had a lot of fun socializing and eating yummy cookies and donuts.

What a wonderful group of people!

Nancy, how large is the cage that you have your pup in? I have found that if the cage is just large enough for the dog they can sleep quite comfortably and not have enough room to use a portion of the cage for a bathroom. My oldest son works for Royal Canin dogfood and part of his job requires that he gives lectures on raising dogs to clubs and groups all over the country. He had told me that while its best to not place a dog in a cage much larger than the dog, economics dictate that people buy one cage large enough for the adult dog. The size disparity can be overcome by placing cardboard boxes inside to reduce the space available thus eliminating the bathroom issue.

I have a question for any of you that live in the UP. Specifically surrounding Prescott.

We are looking at building a Nebraska style, load bearing straw bale house, and also installing a masonry heater. It will be a couple of years away at this point, as we intend to store up as much Alaskan meats as possible next summer, before making the drive.

Is anyone in this area familiar with this style of building, and is there anyone who would enjoy maybe pitching in to learn how to do it?

Thanks Sam - Just returned from our first vet visit - Georgia has not really had solid poops

since we got her last Saturday - turns out she has coccidia as well as round worms....explains the "issue" - we'll get her thru this and then try the cage again -
Sounds like everyone had a fun time without me and Love My Chicklets!

Here it is almost 630 and the temperture is 77 degrees with a gentle breezing blowing. What a great way to wrap up a wonderful day. I would have loved staying and visiting with everyone much longer but we all needed to get chicks home. Today was just another example of why life is good.

Do you read Mother Earth News? Often there's a lot of stuff about that in there.

Also, there is a self-sufficiency "sister" site at the bottom. You may want to try there.
