I candled again tonight- I threw a stinky one away and I have two or three suspicious eggs- cant see much inside them like I can the others, but not ready to throw them out. I have, also, one strange one that had one bouncing blob and another dark blob- I almost wanted to call it twins, but Im sure it was just the position of the duckling.

The other eggs I have TWO out of twelve that have the beginning of a red vein. hmmm.

Do you read Mother Earth News? Often there's a lot of stuff about that in there.

Also, there is a self-sufficiency "sister" site at the bottom. You may want to try there.

I was going to suggest Mother Earth News also. Seems like I read an issue years ago about this style of house. I may even still have the magazine. Good luck with this adventure.

I hope y'all had a wonderful April Fools day. I was able to enjoy being outside hanging up my windchimes and putting out my little statues and such in my flower beds. I also cleaned out my little pond and refilled it. DH and I are in the process of fencing off some of my flower beds to keep the chickens and dogs out. DH managed to get the tree down that he has been working on. It fell right where he wanted it to. I was worried about it hitting the corner of the chicken coop since it was so close.
Today my mama would have been 67 years old.

Thanks to Sam and all involved in the big chick distribution yesterday. My wife said it was nice to meet you all and we love th new chicks. We have 18 in the brooder (old horse water trough) and 17 more in the incubator. Holy cow what happened!

Good morning everyone!!
Sounds like you all had a great day yesterday. Nothing like chicks to get people together. Especially with this awesome weather. My DH built me a nice double stack brooder last week. He was trying to help me get ready for my hatch next week. But instead I figured I would test it out sooner and came home with baby ducks and turkeys yesterday.

He is such an enabler. Looks like today will be beautiful. Hope everyone gets a chance to enjoy it!!

It sounds like everyone had such a wonderful time yesterday. Next year I'll have to have my chicks sent to Sam just so I can come see you all.

It's supposed to be another beautiful day today. We've been letting the ducklings out to play in the grass during the day and they're loving it. As much as I am enjoying all this warm weather and sun I am hoping the forecast is right about the rain tomorrow and next week. I won't complain about the lack of mud this spring, but things are looking mighty dry out there. We really do need the rain.

I feel so left out.....

I sure hope eveyone enjoys their Easter. We will be very busy, new coop got picked up today and off to buy the supplies for a hoop house tonight. My poor toms are really starting to fight.

What a great present from my FIL 8x10 per used perbuilt shed. We will clean it and repaint it. Make it fit for chickens.

I'm jealous too! I'm trying to persuade hubby to put an additional on the girls current coop - which is an Amish shed - nothing but the best for our girls! I'll take pics this week end and post - hubby made reinforced screen doors so that the coop has full ventilation during warm weather....very nice! Put the chicks from Sam with a broody buff orp last night after dark and all is well - she growls at me when I walk into the room we have her and the chicks in! What a good mama!
