DH found some Gold Laced Wyandottes. He will be getting two next week. One of the guys that works at the Family Farm and Home store in Newaygo is going to order some. I like dealing with the folks there as they are pretty knowlegable about the chicks and they are very nice too. They do get a little disappointed however if we don't bring Kodi [our husky] in with us. Kodi will go in and sit right by the register waiting for a treat. Today he got to have two.

I even brought my 3 month olds in that I just put out a couple weeks ago, as they don't have full feathers in yet and didn't want to run a cord for a heat light.
It is snowing big white flakes here right now

Shelleyb, you are so bad. Shame on you for trying to entice people to buy ducks. You are such an enabler!!

Would love to see your hatching chicks, tho. No snow here.....yet. Hope it stays that way. Can't believe the change in weather!!
We finally got our bathroom finished. It looks great! Loved the granite counter so much, we got granite for our kitchen, too! It looks so pretty!

SNOW!!! No way. My heat has been off in the house for a week. Ack...blah...yuck... I know it's Michigan but this March kinda spoiled me.

Actually I do keep telling my husband we need a good hard freeze to kill these early mosquitoes.

Good Late Night everyone!

to the new folks! Glad you joined us

I went tonight to the Lansing post office. Meat chicks are here. The folks there were really nice to call and give us the option to come and get the chicks tonight instead of them having to get shipped to Fowlerville in the freezing cold morning. Now what I don't understand, is my friend ordered from the same company and got her chicks this morning from the Stockbridge post office. My chicks are a day behind....I dont' get it!!! Maybe that is why the post office is going in the red....

I have a cat sleeping standing up and half laying on my arm while I type...doesn't look to me to be very comfortable!

Gretchen had a great birthday. We spent the day at MSU and went to the Mueseum and the Planetarium. Got home and less than 2 hours later, got a call to drive back up there. Which I waited til 8pm to go after Gretchen got to blow out her candles and eat cake and ice cream (from the MSU dairy store

Off to go and check on the chicks. It is going to be a LONG night running out to check on the 2 batches of chicks. Opa- you made the right decision to bring them in. My husband wondered if we should of brought them in due to the cold weather. I said no- didn't want to have to supervise the boys 24/7.

Good night!

It only made it a few days. It seemed to do well the first day, and then just weakend. I'm sure it was for the best. Poor little thing.

So sorry to hear about the little one. Especially with a breed like the Java, where every bird counts. Hopefully you'll have more healthy babies than problems.

Morning folks, and Welcome to the new folks also.

I didn't move the chicks inside from the uber brooder last night, but did worry. I just checked on them, and the temp did drop alittle, but they are fine. I did have to move one of the chicks in. She has been developing a lot slower than the others, and they were just knocking her around all over the place. She is currently in a brooder in the bathroom with Mr. Bear. The other chicks all have well developed tails, wings, and are much larger. She is smaller, slower, and she was getting bullied somewhat.

Doug took out the heater, and heated water out of the coop last week. Hopefully, the water isn't frozen in the big coop.

We had 4 hawks flying over the other day. They checked the place out, but my roosters herded all the girls into the huge pine tree. We have also had a large group of those buzzards flying around, but they don't seem to be interested in the chickens. Cass' silke ( Mama Silkie ) has been trying to hatch golf balls again, so she has been safe in the coop. She's the only one I really worry about with the hawks. I guess it's a good time for her to go broody, or pratice. Whatever she is doing.

I have a few blue bantam cochin chicks, frizzle and smooth.

I am looking for bantam frizzle cochin pullet or hen! Might you have one for sale? I don't care what color...

Good Morning!

All the chicks are doing great! Got to bed about 1am, set the alarm for 3am to check on them, and just went out this morning and they are all doing well. One of the week old bantams was dusting in the sawdust Rachel put in yesterday- too cute!

Jon has jury duty this morning- it is around his 5th time in 12 years. I have never been selected. Jon asked about his high frequency and they told him that they use everyone driver licence numbers and a computer picks them.

Off to paint most of the day at the theatre and then piano lessons for Rachel and ballet performance in the evening for the kids.

Have a great day and I really hope the warm weather comes back real soon!

Sarah
