Hello, my name is Ellen, and I AM addicted to Goslings.

Beware, they are even more addictive than chickens. The nice thing is that they have such BIG personalities that you do not need too many. I started with one that Rhandi stuck in my pocket. Then Vicki sent me pics of some beautiful blues. Next thing I know there is a pair of Embden and French Toulouse in the brooder, and another Lavender on its way this weekend. Another Thank you to Vicki.

Not to mention the 4 brown chinese eggs that are in lockdown. Shhhh! maybe I should try the big honkin duck line with my husband. Think it will work?

I don't think I can add any more breeds to my sig lines.

- Shhhh, I didn't want anyone to know that I was falling victim to ducks too. Let's keep that on the downlow.

I just came in from checking on the birds and it feels more like November instead of April. God must have turned the heat off. Is this weather a sign of the "end of days" or just April in Michigan?

The youngest of my Silkie roos, Dash, got hurt four days ago. He and the other roo were sparring, and somehow Dash got wedged between the doghouse I'm using as the temp coop and one of the straw bale stacks I was using for extra insulation. He was only stuck a few minutes, but he hurt his leg, and was limping around. The next day he was fine, but then yesterday when I let the goons out he wouldn't come out, and he's usually the first out the door. When he finally came out, but he could barely walk, and fell over several times. I brought him in the house and put him in a spare box I was going to use as an addition to the brooder. I gave him poultry drench directly, which he seemed to like, and a bowl of water and chick starter ( I felt the extra protein would help him heal the injury). He was really bad; I was dreading the possibility of having to cull him because he's the sweetest of the two roos, and likes to share his treats with the hens (Turk is a selfish butthead when it comes to goodies). Fortunately, he seems to be getting better. He stands up straighter without having to splay his legs way out, and also doesn't sway and stumble as bad as he was earlier today. He's also eating like a complete pig!

Does anyone have any tips to give that might help me with his recovery, or am I doing what I can?

Michelle: Quit tempting me ducks; I'm afraid I may be biting off more than I can chew with the chickens!

Ellen: What happened with the Java chick that had the goofy eyes?

They may be messy, but they are the cutest little things when it comes to water. I had ducks last year, but wasn't set up for them through the winter...so I thought it best to find them good homes. This year is a different story.

I really miss having those little water babies quacking at me. It's almost as good as the chickens' running after me for treats.

Ok...if anyone wants them, I've got a 7 week old pair of youngsters for sale. A dark Cornish pullet paired with a RIR rooster. They must go together since they're free...you can do whatever you want with the rooster if need be. The pullet is a total psycho...jumps out of her skin when you even look at her. Thus, she has taught the rooster to be the same way. I'm about ready to strangle them both, and since I sold their brooder mates today, these 2 need to go like NOW. I'm going to put them on Freecycle and Craigslist if no one here wants them. They're both Mareks vaccinated.

If you ever get a chance to eat mountain lion take it. It is very good eating so I understand why they like it so much. And before you ask all 7 of my brothers hunt and you never know what they will be feeding you. I thought it was chicken until I ate it. Does not taste like chicken and is probally one of the best tasting meat. Very clean white meat.

I've heard that in Africa they sometimes serve lion burgers and they are supposed to be very good

April in Michigan.

I remember an April in the early 1990s when it snowed when we went to Mt. Pleasant. When I went to Rapid River in 2001 for the Grand Island endurance ride, it snowed that weekend ... it was Memorial Day

Ellen: What happened with the Java chick that had the goofy eyes?

It only made it a few days. It seemed to do well the first day, and then just weakend. I'm sure it was for the best. Poor little thing.
