Wow - Where do you get 55 gallon plastic pickle barrels? They look like they would make good rain barrels, composters, Large cider fementers, Large beer fermentors....Hmmm

LOL, if you go that large you should put the axle through the center and put fins on it so the wind can blow it for you...... ah ha, now there's an idea!

Opa, excellent pictures. You make it looks so simple. And yes, were did you get those pickle barrels? I live right down the road from Valasic and cant even get them.

As far as that door, oh yeah they would get to it, They'd go right through it. I had a glass storm door on my house. Pretty thing,it lasted about 2 months. As my German Shep and my Dobe decided to get ruff housing and my Dobe ran behind the love seat and slammed into the door. It shattered into a million pieces. He's also not allowed Kong's in the house anymore since he loves to shake them and let'em loose, Right through my front glass window.

Wish the weather tomorrow was going to be like today. Its been a beautiful day to work outside. Hope you all had a chance to enjoy it.

Dog houses work well for geese to lay in, not sure about the screen door, but maybe. They love a cozy place to lay and protect their eggs. Geese are the best, I love mine!

Actually the hardest part of the composter project was bolting the toilet flange in the bottom of the barrel. Turned out the the only way it could be done was Hope crawled into the barrel to attach the lock washers and nuts to the bolts. While that was difficult, the actual hard part was resisting the urge to roll the barrel while Hope was inside of it.
The holes through the barrel and the 4" PVC were drilled 2" above the middle. The barrels have a longitudinal seam of both sides so locating the directly opposite was easy. I place a board across the top and measured down. The 4" PVC is 2" shorter than the depth of the barrel. I trapped the PVC between the blade and the fence on my tablesaw, used the fence as a straight edge to mark the length of the pipe, rotated it 1" marked again and so on until I had linear lines all around the pipe. I then place a mark every inch on the linear line. Next I drilled 3/16 holes on the marks, close to 500 holes, for airflow. There are four indented handles on the barrel. I drilled 8 holes in each indentation for the air to exhaust. While it seems like a lot of work it is difficult, especially when you remind yourself that the composter is going to cost $30 and not $400.

Hi, everybody!!
I hope everyone enjoyed this weather, as I am sure you all were busy with outside projects. I know my house is a wreck and I don't care so much on these nice weather days. We have been busy building chicken pens and today we decided to get feeder pigs. So extra fencing and shelter are up and hope they do well tonight.
Hope to see some of you tomorrow at Imlay City. We plan on being there at 6:00. I am not sure why, we don't need to buy anything. I am sure I will find something I can't go home without though. I have never been to a swap or poultry sale before, so I am sure I will be in trouble!!
Opa: I can imagine your thought when Hope was in the barrell. I am sure I would get the same thought. Lucky for you that you did not act on it.
Hope everyone had a great day and has a nice weekend, inspite the weather reports!

I just candled my free hatching eggs. Only one is viable. I asked the hub if we should keep trying with that one lonely egg? His answer === "What are we runnin' here, an abortion clinic" ouch! The bator is still running as we give this hardy little BO a shot at living.

Welcome rain. At least it is not freezing cold again this morning. Gotta love Michigan, that fickle old girl.

Great Day to you all!

Hillbilly, Thanks for the sale info yesterday.

I just showed it to DH and told him the cost. "I believe it," he said

That door is amazing. We hve a small stained glass window of a dove, but it's nothing like that

Hope your hatch of ducklings goes well, Oopsy. One thing I noticed about them is that they really struggle and take a long time to hatch. Most of mine took about three days from pip to hatch. I don't know if maybe the humidity wasn't enough, and the membrane was too dry, or what. I'm excited for you, though. My first seven that hatched out are the Pekin/Cayuga crosses, which is what you have. They are the cutest darn things! And they are growing much, much faster than the pure Cayugas. If they end up tasting just as good as the pure Cayugas, I will probably do another batch of these.

Opa, what a beautiful door!!! I can't imagine why they would want to remove it.

Sure wish I could have gone to Imlay City today. Sure would have be nice to have seen everyone but I had to meet with a customer about a big project. Given the state of the economy I can't afford to let any job get by.

Would have loved to see you Qpa! But jobs are more important!!!Chickflick and I made it to Imlay City!! I scored a buff goose from Vivki2x2 and Chickflick got 2 ee's from Shelly1969!!!

Off to search for dose strenght on Tylan 50 for my tom Henry. He is under the weather and not eating except, of course, when I give them treats. This is the third day he has been sick
