Grrrrr..... Our mailbox was smashed in sometime last night.

Along with some others down the road. I never did get the fun in destroying someones stuff. Ha, ha practial jokes like vasaline on door knobs, straw in a mail box, ballons filling up a car, things that will cause someone some clean up time and a little chuckle for me.

This was always on good friends or relatives, not strangers. I just don't get it, what makes destroying something fun? Now we have to buy a new mailbox. Money I wasn't planning on spending.

Hey Vicki, I may be interested in doing the July 10th event if you head down there. I have that weekend off.

Wish I could Ellen, but that is our fair. June is open houses, July is fair, August is my family reunion, so this is my only time to go! Man my life is too busy!!

I was really thankful we had it. Every time he had to go gas it up again, all the babies panicked while the power was out. It was a peepfest! I was considering putting the eggs under the 3 broodies in the coop, but I have 40 eggs. I'm gonna candle tonight to see if they are still alive, temp drop was only about a half hour.

Rose...next time I'll come more prepared for your arrival. I'll be sure and bring some Showgirl chicks to stuff in your pockets, too!

As for you being an enabler....yes you are. But you are very easily enabled too!

Shelley, I'm gonna have to stay away from you!! Everytime we get together, I seem to end up with more chicks that I wasn't planning on!! You are a very bad influence on me!! Those wheaton ee chicks are adorable, tho, and doing well with the others.
Was great to see all of you at the swap. Only reason I went and was doing well until I met up with Shelley!!

There was a guy going around at the swap yesterday passing out his card, he does processing. Seemed like a nice guy. Too far for me, as he lived in Caro, but I thought I would post it, as it seems sometimes people have a hard time finding anyone. His business is called Westover Wild Wings Poultry Processing, list owners are Ann & Shane Westover, 989-239-3733, [email protected] , his prices say $1.25 per chicken or pheasant, $4 per turkey, duck, goose or rabbit, call for other birds. Ask about 4-H/fair & holiday bird specials. Refer a friend and get 1 bird free!

Kathy...the same thing happened when I was incubating your BLRW eggs. The power was out for an hour before we hooked up the generator. The minute the power went out I threw a blanket over the incubator...'cause most of the time it comes back on within a half hour. That day, it was out for over 3 hours. As you know, I had an awesome hatch from your eggs regardless. I'm sure your eggs are fine. It takes at least 2 hours for the internal temp of an egg to change...at least that's what I've read.

We had an outtage too. I don't think it was out very long though. I also have eggs in the bator, but I guess they are ok. I saw some silkie eggs moving in the turner, and also saw one of the EE eggs moving. I guess I'll be taking them out of the turner tonight instead of tomorrow morning like I planned. They are apparently ready. Hopefully, no more power outtages.

Brrrr it's cold here in Dewitt and I'm thinking of turning the heat ON! Sam, the foster hen is still tending to the welsummers and ee's just fine and we've moved them outside to the original A frame coop...and Ellen, the SLW's are doing just fine...they're outside in Broody Hall; have been out free ranging every now and then and they absolutely LOVE that! We met with a building today to discuss putting an extension on the coop. Presently have 28 + 8 Wellies + 4 EE's + 4 SLW's + we should be receiving 12 Cinammon Queen chicks later this week! No, I'm not addicted!
We have a couple of hens that lay thin shelled eggs - typically there is only one but today we had 2. The hens receive pellets + crushed egg shells + calcium....any idea what else could be causing this? I've researched it and from what I find, the cause is low calcium...but they have access to just about as much as they could possibly want....thoughts? Thanks~!

I'm dealing with soft shelled eggs as well. I was talking to an enviromental engineer about my well water because I have arsenic and a few other nasties in it. He was telling me that many chicken farmer in my area have issues with soft shell eggs because of the heavy metals in the water. the heavy metals interfer with calcium absorbation. After the farmers changed thier feed to a high bio available mineral feed did the problem go away. I gave my chickens filtered water and extra veggies with oystershells and I get a few eggs here and there and then she stops again. Better than none. I picked up some organic feed to see if that does the trick.
