We expanded the garden this year and it has been a lot of work getting it ready. I compost all the horse manure, and it was time to bring it up for the garden. It's amazing how long that takes when you are bringing it up one tractor bucket full at a time as we compost in the pasture in windrows that is over 500 ft. away. Ugh. It also does not help that I read WAY TOO much. We are trying Elliot Coleman's method of creating raised beds without building them our of forms. We have 30-48 inch rows seperated by 24 in walkways. Once we have measured everything off we have been raking the walkway dirt into the "bed" area. This makes the bed 4-6 inches higher than the walkway. Lots of hard work! My boys were so good that they spent most of the morning working with me yesterday. I was so proud of them!

I have the day off today and hope to go finish everything.

HAVE A GREAT DAY EVERYONE!

Kim,

I guess you could put a call duck with him or maybe a baby goose? Definitely something in the waterfowl area. That is the best I have. Someone else might have another duck that is closer to mallards, a rouen or something.

Sorry Vicki, but I only have the 1 female for sale. They are from Metzers. I ended up having to order a 4th duckling to complete the order. I'm keeping 2 females and a drake for myself...so this 1 little girl needs a new home. 4 of them is just 1 too many for me.

But I want to keep 2 girls so as to keep the drake happy.

No, I won't be attending chickenstock this year. My hubby will be working that Saturday and we only have the 1 vehicle. With him gone to work, I just can't leave for the day without someone to watch over the multitudes of chicks I have. LOL I'll let you know about the duckling. Since you don't really have anything that would work for Kim (M2EA), I pm'd her about the WH duckling first. I didn't know you were looking for that breed. If she doesn't want to buy her, then you're more than welcome to her. But I'm not sure how I could get her to you.

Thats ok, maybe I should just order from metzers myself, then I would have enough. I hemmed and hawed when we both ordered last time and just decided the other day to add them. Crazy, I know!

Anyone need anything from Metzers???

Kim - I wish you were closer my mom's ducks just hatched out a whole clutch of little rouen ducklings a couple of weeks ago.

I was a little concerned with how gray and dreary it was this morning but am happy now to see some sunshine out there. I've been spoiled by these nice hot temps. Now anything under 80 feels cold.

Something is eating my green bean leaves and I am not a happy camper about it. I'm going to go out in the heat of the day today to check for bean beetles and if I don't find any I'll check late tonight by flashlight for slugs. They're attacking my whole bed of them so I've got to figure out something. Does anyone have any other ideas or suggestions?

I saw a U-Pick farm in Hudson (I think that was the city name...) was advertising on craigslist that they'll open for Strawberry season this week. I can't believe it's getting to that time already this year. Time flies.

Shelley,

I would love to have her but I have no idea how to get her from you to me. You are two hours away- making a four hour trip seems impossible. Anyone have any ideas? And if not, Vicki if you want her- get her for yourself. I know that TSC told me they were getting 300 chicks and ducks/geese in on the first which is today- however, I won't have a way to get to them either this week.

My husband tore his hamstring and twisted his ankle over the weekend and his van broke down and he is more work than my kids are. Plus I work all week now...oh I have Thursday off. My daughter has an honors banquet that day.

I dont know what to do.

Someone just posted three ducklings on Craigslist. They are just a couple cities over- a Swedish and two that I have no idea what they are. One is blue, one is black, one is pied. About a week old. I called him, supposed to pick them up tomorrow. Hopefully the person hangs on to them so I can get them!

Well today is supposed to be hatching day, but so far not a single bit of action. No rocking, no peeping, no pipping. I'll continue to wait and see, but I'm not thinking they made it through the power outage.

Morning everyone! I still have two Wellsumer 8 week old roos that need homes. Will be bringing one for Hillbilly Hen to chickenstock. Any one else looking for a free roo? If so PM me and we will bring them along.

See you all in a couple weeks.
