Good Morning! Think everyone has heat stroke! DH had to make me more nest boxes yesterday. 6 broodies taking up all my nests. Now, we have another row of nests, so hopefully, we can make everyone happy. Have a good day!

Batten down the hatches!

lower mid mi is due for a couple good storms today..

The first storm system, moving into the region from the upper Midwest, is expected to come through the area sometime between 10 a.m. and noon. That one may produce some severe winds.

The second storm system - expected to also bring strong winds, possible hail and heavy rain - is likely to make its way to Washtenaw County between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Yeah, there goes my gazebo! The last storm we had, friday, I was out there holding the darn thing up... all the while hoping I didn't get struck by lightning. We have a large metal pagoda that we've never be able to preplace if the wind took it out.

Woo... lots of rain pouring down all in a couple minutes. It's all but stopped for now. It started thundering when I was checking on the chicks but they didn't even seem to notice. I guess being in the garage is nice enough for them, they don't care what goes on outside.

Any outdoor plans are not happening now.

I guess I go back to cleaning the house.

FlyingFChick, I would have to say someone stole your hook and flowers. I used to do cemetery grounds keeping for the township I was in and we did our best not to damage live flowers, move and replace potted plants and fake flowers and never took anything that was placed by family. If they were out of the way I don't see any reason for the ground keepers to mess with it. I do know that some teens think it's a lot of fun to desecrate graves in the dead of night. I had quite a few classmates ask if I would take them to the cemeteries I took care of at night so they could drink or party. I'm sorry that someone would do that to you, or anyone.

cornelljacks - Welcome to the forum!

Hey, anyone see any news about the quake that hit Ontario? I've seen a few people on some other sites saying that they felt a little shaking here in Michigan. I didn't feel anything here, just north of Flint, but I figured I would ask and see if anyone did.

Okay, what is a good age to give chicks grit?
I ask because my lil brahma chick was acting a little off, laying on her side and appears to have a lump just under her neck. I wrangled her and felt the lump and it is squishy, sort of, but me touching it didn't seem to hurt her. Is her gizzard full and she needs some time to pass it and/or a little bit of chick grit?
I have given them some really mashed up boiled egg, but none of the others seem to be having any problems.

As long as you are feeding only chick starter or any other finely ground feed grit is unnecessary. However, if you give them scratch they will need to be given chick sized grit to fascilitate the grinding of the ingested seeds.

Exciting day here!

Rearranged the coops again with the worry of storms and not being home. Which weren't bad! Got the oldest 2 to MSU for Exploration Days. On the way taking them, I got my 1st speeding ticket

I was hurrying trying to beat the storm. We did miss the rain but, it cost me $120.00!

A sign was put by our train tracks that they are closing it down Thursday and Friday. Which stinks cause we live on a dead end road, with 10 houses stuck on the other side. So we have to park and walk to our cars on the other side. We live the farthest away, 3/4 of a mile. The plus side is the crossing will be fixed. It has needed it for over 2 years.

Got all my running of kids around this afternoon and there is a train stopped on the tracks. Legally can be there for 15 minutes and it has been there for an hour now. I illegally crawled under the train, with 2 other neighbors, so we could get home.

Oh and the state police are sitting on our road looking and waiting for a fugitive who escaped from the little motel last night and headed our way. They haven't warned any of the nieghbors or looked in any of the barns in the area either. I was being the noisey neighbor and stopped and asked the cop why he was sitting on our road.

And think my road is only 1 mile long!
