Congratulations on the baby and I'm glad your health issues are improving.

Pretty cool that you have eggs already considering that the ISA hatched 3/30/10 so about 17 weeks

Fly chick: Congratulations! I was wondering if you had your little one yet. So what's the little lady's name? Glad that you are feeling better

Congratulations on the eggs, it is so wonderful when they first start laying.

Today Jack turned 6. Had a fun day and went to Wendy's and Great Escape for his party. they have indoor putt putt golf, games where the tickets are spit out at you to redeem for prizes and go-carts. We then went back to my grandmas for cake and ice cream. Long day...I am ready for bed!

Good Night!

I couldn't believe it myself, Sam! I wasn't expecting anything for a few more weeks! If I didn't see it for myself today, I was thinking that my hubby was playing tricks on me!

Thanks, Wylie. She was born on July 6th. Her name is Kaitlyn Johanna. She is very sweet and is such a good baby. I am really trying to enjoy her because she is our 2nd and last! Here is a picture:

I was very excited to get our first eggs ever! This was all started by our 4 year old, who decided that it would be fun to have chickens! Here she is with her very first egg!

What cute kids you have! So glad that you listened to your daughter and got chickens

They are so fun!

Love the name Kaitlyn. My cousin's daughter is named that.

Enjoy them while they are young. They grow up so fast. My oldest is 14 and youngest almost 4 (5 total). It is amazing how the time flys!
I have a cousin who is insane with having kids, no sort of birth control at all. They are strict Catholic. Her oldest just turned 5 a few days ago. She is pregnant with #5 and due in November with that one. Most have been c-section, so everyone worries about how many c-sections one can have safely and her health in general with so many kids in a 5 year period.

The Isa's that we have lay eggs that are too heavy for the egg scale, jumbo size. It amazing me on the size of the egg to how small of a bird they are. They are our most curious birds too. They go on the porches and look in the front door and in our garage if the door is open.

I have one of the best gardens I've had in years and I mulched it with several inches of straw. It seems that the straw may have provided ideal conditions for voles. The stupid little things have been busy. Yesterday we pulled the beets and almost every one has scars from voles chewing on them. Some are almost completely destroyed. They also have managed to eat the bottom from every ripe tomato.

I put out three mouse traps yesterday afternoon and checked an hour later and I had caught an extremely well fed vole. I'm going to go out and check and see if I've caught any over night. If I did I think I'll go buy a dozen more traps.

So, chickens are supposed to seek shelter from the rain right? Because if they are, then I have some stupid chickens. Every time is has started to rain they don't seem to notice and just stand around out in it getting wet.

Also, does anyone have tips on getting rid of groundhogs? We have tried catching it in a live trap but so far it's not interested in the bait. I'm not sure if there's one or two but they have taken to hiding under the deck and the shed.

Sarah,
Our first ISA was so friendly and curious that we went and got 2 more from Opa. They are by far our favorites. I would love to see them free range to see what mischief they could get in to, but we have a chocolate lab that would love them for lunch and our neighbors dog would be there to join her

One of them will fly up and sit on my husband's shoulder or head. I am so happy to have them!

I know what you mean about time flying. I can't believe that my daughter is 4 already. I had time to enjoy her and have vowed that I will enjoy Kaitlyn while she is tiny too. I am not looking forward to Cassie starting school next year as I have heard that one day they are starting Kindergarten and the next day they are going off to college. Once they start school they get their own little lives that don't involve you as much as you would like, I guess. Wow, so many c-sections in 5 years is a lot. They say that they are harder every time. This was my 2nd and it was harder on me. My friend just had #3 and her Dr said it was pretty difficult for him with all of the scar tissue.

Have a great day! Wish the weather from Friday and Saturday would stick around, but I guess it is going to get steamy again!
