BTW, my bf's daughter (almost 20) has been feeling left out, so has my daughter (almost 20). We've been getting all these chickens and ducks and they're considered ours.

My daughter, Angellica has decided she wants a rabbit! If she's going to get one, I've always liked Holland Lops, but I guess it doesn't matter, just one that's young. Kathrine wants a young Mallard. Can anyone here help with either, or know where I can get them?

Keyt, I have a couple of hollands and a couple of litters due in a couple of weeks. I have 2 boys available, they are 1 and 2 years old. Extremely friendly, they are climbing out of the cage to get to you type. The one boy was a house bunny before his owner was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and had to give him up. He is very small and litter trained.

Glad to hear that they are doing well- yep, let those ducks into the yard. They love chasing bugs, and the coolness of the grass. Want some fun? Turn on a sprinkler then let the ducks out. They didnt like cantalope as much as they do the watermelon. Maybe it was the group mentality over here- "HEY! This isnt watermelon!" , lol, and they were all holding out for me to bring it out. Who knows?

The one mallard here has been flying circles over the yard and quacking- its as if she is telling the other two to hurry up and get ready to fly south- the other two, are like, "Nah...food here, water here, Im not going anywhere". lol. I cant wait to see what happens when the wild ducks start flying overhead.

Saturday, I am driving out to Caprice Acres in Brooklyn to pick up some female muscovies. I am very excited to even out the male: female ratio and then maybe my overlyhormonal runner will chill out. Last night, I was outside rooting for the muscovies. "Chase him back!" "Don't run from him- you are three times his size"...lol. The males just run away- they have no idea that they are big. They will run BEHIND me, as in, "Save me mom!"

Sorry about your loss of your hen, Sam. I sure do not like winter at all, but this heat is too much. Some nice warm, neutral weather would be nice.

Everyone have a great day- its work for me until four. I may try to call the doctors to see if the rest of my bloodwork results are in. It may be too soon. They said four days- but that was on Saturday. i don't think they count Sunday.

I have a question for all of you! I have 2 (out of 12) chickens ( 22 weeks old )that are losing feathers just above their tail feathers on their back. It isn't red or irritated just missing feathers. I don't see any feather picking going on. The lady at the feed store said it might be lice, but wouldn't they all have it then? What else could it be? Would a picture be helpful? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Bethanyrae - You can feed them all flock raiser and just put out extra calcium for the layers to take free choice. They'll all take it, but it won't hurt your juveniles.

It's going to be a long hot day today, but it brings us one day closer to the kids going back to school so you will hear no complaints from me.

I have to spend most of it either inside or in the car anyway, so I guess I won't have to suffer through the heat for the most part anyway.

Speaking of the weather, they keep reducing our chances of getting rain tomorrow and Thursday. We need it so badly. A couple good Thunderstorms would be nice. I need to reseed the east hog paddock before fall and I'd really like to not have to water it so much.

Well, time to get to work. I hope ya'll are having a good Tuesday.

Good morning everyone! It was my day to get up with the chickens (Aric and I take turns) and it's getting hot already! Well this morning has been interesting! First, one of the silkies started crowing. He sounds like a little boy who's changing his voice. It's there and the crow makes it almost to the end like a normal crow lol. The Belgian Quail roo does a funny crow too but he's MUCH louder! Pretty Boy still tries to out-do them all! lol

I also wish this heat would go away! It's going to be a very busy rest of the week. Poor Aric. First of all, I can never say enough how he's nearly the perfect boyfriend. I mention a couple times I wanted ducks, he said he wanted chickens and a few days later he's built me a chicken coop (more like a house!). A few days after that we got chickens. Basically whatever I mentioned (not begged for) I wanted, he found it for me! He's been talking about using half of the "garage" (which is a lot!) for the birds for the winter. Like I said before, it looks like a garage but it's never been used for that. Either his grandfather's chickens or his son's game room. So yesterday at Menard's he was looking at supplies to convert it back to a chicken/duck enclosure and boom...there went $100! lol

A couple of days ago he was at the other house (we have two houses on the same property about 25 feet apart) doing something on the porch, but he told me not to go over there. I was a bit worried because he gets this certain "I'm up to something, but you'll like it" look on his face, so I just went to the back to watch the ducks. I later went into the small house to get a drink and when I came back out he and my daughter were sitting in the chairs. Aric said I should go check and see if there were eggs. So I walked into the chicken run and started to open the door when I found this:

Did I mention he cooks, cleans, does laundry and sews? Yesterday he was sewing a button onto his shorts while he was wearing them. Quite comical! lol

So, Aric is going to start converting the garage, plus my car isn't driveable right now, it needs shocks and struts, plus he's going to help CricketYang's husband work on her car! But, we're very much the same, we'd rather be busy!

At some point today I'm going to let the cayugas into the yard. I've been leery about it because of the road, but if I can direct them into the back field (not really ours, but the neighbor doesn't care) I would feel better. If the temp gets as bad today as it was yesterday, I'll turn on the hose for them, that should be fun!

Well, I've already gone through two cups of coffee so guess i better go find something to do. I'm always looking for something I can do for Aric, but I'm not as creative as he is lol

Wow, how sweet your BF is!! Sounds like a keeper!! On the bunnies, just let me know when you are ready, we will see what we have and you can pick whatever you are interested in then. Hollands are super sweet, so it is easy to love them all!

Do you have a rooster? If so, is he mounting them? That can be the cause of missing feathers too
