You will probably be able to find some one to split an order with you or you could even wait till chickenstock. Sometimes people will sell the extras on craigs list

Thank y'all

I can't give up all my chickens, especially after DH did such a wonderful job on the new coop. But I am trying to reduce to a more manageable number in case I have to have surgery. DH will have to take care of the critters if I do.

Or you may even be able to find what you want locally. The MI BYCers have quite the menagerie amongst us. That would save both shipping cost and the stress on the chicks.

MCW good luck with your trail ride. It sure sounds fun. The last time I rode a horse was on Mackinac Island with my wife on our honeymoon 19 years ago. I'm a big Cowboy Western TV show fan & love the Westerns channel on the Dish. We went out to Dodge City Kansas last year on vacation & was disappointed there was no place to rent a horse & ride. Anybody near Ypsilanti, Michigan have any extra hens they would be willing to sell? My 9 girls can't quite keep up with my egg customers. I'd like 8-10 more layers. Thanks

PC, last spring I ordered chicks from Estes Hatchery. I posted a month prior as to my intent, and several folks contacted me to add to my order. The more chicks you order the less the per chick cost is. I order 95 chicks and only 5 were for me.

I have my roost boards (2x4 wide side up) positioned about 4' above the floor so that they are higher than the nest boxes. A small ladder fascilitates the birds getting to the roost. Chickens will go to roost much easier if the can gain the necessary height in 12" increments.

Still looking for a young mallard. We are expanding and I want the mallard for my bf's daughter for her birthday.

I hope everyone had a great day, despite the rain. My day was extremely rough so I'm glad it's over!

New To BYC~
I live in Southeast Michigan, 60 miles from Detroit. I'm new to chickens this summer and am having a great time with it.
I currently have 1 Bantam Leghorn pullet, and am raising 4 chicks, pullets I hope! The 4 week-old chicks include 1 Australorp,
and 3 RIR. I am happy to be here!

to Carrie Lynn!

Well, it's been a busy day already! Clipped the nails and brushed two rabbits, thoroughly cleaned their hutches, chased down a couple of chicks who found out they could fly out of the small coop, then spent a good hour trying to get pics of my poor little Daisy who seems to still have injured (?) wings.

I don't know what to do about this anymore. They seem to bother her a little too. When she's walking around and resting, she's constantly trying to pull them up. It's mostly her right side. It's like it's too heavy and she's dragging it. The left side seems to be a problem too but nothing like her right.

Is this an angel wing? I have wrapped it 3 times but she always seems to find a way out of the wrap. Yes, this is the same duck I posted pics of with the bloody wings. I feel so bad for her. She seems happy! She eats fine and swims fine, although she doesn't get in the duck pond as often as all the others. I think when the wings get wet it bothers her more.

From the back you can see them both just hanging

Picture006-1.jpg

This is the worst one. It hangs like this all the time and she's always trying to pull it in. Should I try trimming it?

Picture005.jpg

This one has a problem too but it's not near as bad!

Picture013-4.jpg

I don't know, it just seems like she never rests as comfortably as the others because she's always trying to pull her wings in

Any ideas??

One of my chickens left me an egg today!
It's light brown and small but I have a feeling it's from the Americauna and not any of the silkies. Our white silkie was hanging out in the coop an awful lot though and has been clucking quite a bit... Could silkie eggs be very light brown?
Now I just have to get them to lay in the nest box and all will be well.
