Well, I would imagine the move kind of mixed up the pecking order, because here, Giselle was low man on the pole, so to speak and was often driven away from the bowl. Of course, there was always plenty left over, so he could just eat when the others were done, but I would guess he is making up for it now!!

I don't allow any attacks, nope, they get scolded for that. Hissing, ok, but no nipping. Usually a little finger shaking or a little neck grab does the trick. Now the blue male, we had an understanding. He was the dominant male here and actually was pretty good for, except during breeding season, then all bets are off!! He was the first to greet me, first to eat, etc. Rarely did he try to nip, as long as I gave him the respect he thought he deserved!!

It took Georgio awhile to decide to trust me though, so he may just need some time.

We're in Webster Township. I'm a teacher in A2 though, that's where the A2 comes from. Nice to see you here!

I have a few more days to build up my resistance plan! It's this week end, the 9th and 10th. But, I AM NOT buying anything! I AM NOT! I AM NOT!

I hate this wet and dreay day! Hens aren't too happy about it either. Oh well, guess I'll find things to do inside. Stay dry and warm, everyone....

Hi All,
I need advice on hardening off chicks. I am slowly learning how to navigate the forum and I posted a question under the Raising Chicks topic. If anyone has a chance to read it and offer help I would really appreciate it! Also, what's the quickest way to get to the MI thread?
Thanks!

As far as hardening off chicks, you can move the heat lamp further and further above them, gauging their response as you go. Depending on the difference between the temp under the light and the temp in the environment they're destined for you may only have to move it up once or twice before turning it off, or you may need to go slower and have more steps in there.

If there's not a big difference in temp (more than 20-30 degrees) sometimes I will move it up just once, leave it there for a few days and then when I have time to monitor them regularly throughout the day, I turn the light off. If they do fine with it off. I skip the "weaning" process and just leave it that way. I've yet to find chicks that can't take 70s by a few weeks of age, honestly. But your results may vary. Just listen to the chicks, they'll tell you if they're too cold.

Hey all! I was wondering if anyone had some feathered out or older blue laced red wyandottes out there. I have a pair but am looking for 2 -3 more hens for the pen so my hen wouldn't get so picked on. Willing to pay well for some good quality girls. Thanks!!

YAY! Have talked my daughter to going to Fowlfest with me . I was so impressed with the animals there . Can hardly wait !! I really hope the neighbor who takes care of my animals does NOT have trouble with my ducks. Flipper is being a pain in the ______ . When I taught Special Education for 30 years .. the designation was PITA..... I also had PI - Parentally impaired... two added to the 12 that are recognized.Hopefully , FLIPPER does NOT FALL into that Category!!! Anyway, I can hardly wait. I think I want to see if there are any that my Granddaughter can raise . I usually get the cast offs .. Who die of old age in a very cushy atmosphere. I have a big tendency to spoil my animals. A2 - Are you going to be there? I can talk to you about Levering and living Up North. Anyway - YAY Fowlfest !!!!!!

Wow, I havent been on in a while...a long while. But my regionals for tennis date was moved and i can go to FOWELFEST NOW!!!!! Im so excited. Im gunna get there really early to find some new birds even though i just hatched 20 r so.
