No, and I am pretty positive my girls are girls. Only have three of them. One- really all of them, are definitely girls. Girls but they are not laying eggs. Everything I own is a freeloader- so perhaps someone decided to learn how to crow? Would be my luck.

That is just too weird. Do you have zoning against roosters? I guess you could prove you don't actually have one, even though that's not the intent of the ordinance. ha. Are you still hearing it?

My Bantam Hen would after she laid an egg....she wasn't very loud, it was cute but she did crow.

I have a few young hens and roos that will need a home.... (will want a few bucks for hens) - unless you want a live roo, they're destined for freezer camp. (Salmon Faverolles) They're of mixed ages dating from Sept to today.

Hey everyone!

Ok, after a LOT of thought, I am sadly asking if anyone has anything to trade or willing to just take 4 Beglain Quail hens and a BQ roo. I really love them, but they harrass my pullets and sadly another one is dead today. They pick on the bigger birds too but they are able to defend themselves. Today I walked in to find one of the BQ hens choking one of my isa brown pullets and it couldn't be saved. I had another die a couple of weeks ago and I thought it was mysterious (I blamed it on the freezing temp the night before) but this has to be why.

The rooster isn't mean except he likes to chase females (and he crows nicely too), but he doesn't do anything. The hens won't touch the ducks or big chickens. Just anything small.

At this point I am also just feeding them because the hens don't lay eggs (I have had small eggs a few times, but I believe it's from the serama) and now they are dangerous to the smaller chickens.

If ANYONE is willing to take them, you can have them. I think if you have just a few adult chickens or ducks it'll be just fine. They are pretty and I love them but I can't take the risk anymore.

I have put an ad in craigslist twice, but never got a response so I am trying here.

On another note:
SillyChicken, I would love laying hens, but I won't have money until Monday. We aren't too far away I don't think.

It's definitely looking (and feeling) like Fall out there today. Many, many, many leaves down... it's looking like I'm gonna have to get the rake out and start the Fall cleanup process.

Keyt, I don't think most people know what d'anvers are and that might be the problem. They used to be called Belgian Quail Antwerps. Try just selling them as a flock of bantams or banties as locals here love to call them. The females really are sweet birds, at least with people. I kept all mine separated by breed, so I haven't had them picking on others, as they never were with others. The young roosters picked on each other when they started getting older and they were all still together, but that was it. I am sorry they are not working out.

On a different note, I do have a few more serama's I am going to sell, if you or anyone is interested. Whatever doesn't sell, I will be taking to a Small Animal Swap on November 14. I have a couple more bunnies too.

Quick question...
Where does everyone buy extra egg crates at a reasonable price from? I don't need to buy dozens at a time since I only have 7 girls and currently am only getting 3-4 a day but I do need a few.

They have been a problem from the beginning, even when we just had a few chickens. I thought they would grow out of it but they are only getting worse. I really love them, they are cute and yes they are sweet with me but this torturing the pullets is out of control now!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE my seramas and would love more, but Aric says he only wants laying hens if possible or at least ones that lay bigger eggs. I believe my serama hen is laying but not very often. That's ok, she and "Pretty Boy" are my faves of the chickens no matter what!

Also my egg customers will return the empties to be refilled. Right now I have almost 100 on top of my refrigerator. Now the girls are starting to lay more I should be able to fill more orders.

I get my egg cartons from friends and family. Ask your customers to return the cartons, or they'll get their eggs in paper bags!

Yup, Fall is here. Still windy and sure is chilly. Is spring coming soon? Dread winter. Take care...
