Keyt -- I'd echo the recommendation to advertise them simply as "banties" most people don't know the breeds and recognize all small chickens with the exception of silkies as simply that. I've spent years telling my mother, no you do not have a "banty" you have an OEGB, bantam is the size, not the breed. She'd just look at me and

and continue talking about her "banty hen". I gave up and now just ask her how her banties are.

Teresa -- If there's not a Family Farm & Home near you TSC does carry them, they're just a little more. I think 50 cents each or thereabouts. That said eggcartons.com has their plastic misprint cartons on closeout right now. $9.95 for 25 of them and free shipping through October 31. If they're just for personal use the misprints will be fine for you.

Also my egg customers will return the empties to be refilled. Right now I have almost 100 on top of my refrigerator. Now the girls are starting to lay more I should be able to fill more orders.

I asked around at work. Brought home a big plastic bag of them today. Whatever they buy from me, somehow I get 3x the amount of cartons back.

Good Morning all!

Thanks for the answers. I will ask around, maybe post something on my facebook page. I certainly don't need 25 boxes as I'm sure a couple of my customers will return their boxes to be reused.

I don't know about everyone else but I'm seeing a pretty thick blanket of leaves in my yard that I'm going to have to start mulching this weekend. Hate bagging leaves!

Happy Halloween to everyone! Time for some more coffee!

Good morning all. Sorry that it's been so long since I've been on. I had been very busy with work and when I finally was able to find time for the internet, I wasn't able to get on line. Seems that my modem keeps shutting down and then can't recognize the proper numbers to log in. Hopefully I have it repaired for awhile. Thanks everyone for your concern.

This is a pic of JC wanting to come inside. He sees me on the computer and wants to send a message?

And this is hem and missy, hanging out in the yard. ( I really will miss him)

Good afternoon everyone!

Well, it certainly feels like fall around here! Not just for the temp either!

Aric, his daughter Kathrine (no I didn't miss the middle e lol) who will be 20 on Wednesday and my daughter Angellica who will be 20 on the 26th all live in a tiny house that's been in Aric's family since his grandfather built it in the 50's. About 20 feet away is another house that his great grandparents built 100+ years ago. A long time ago they owned 400+ acres. Now it's down to about an acre. Aric has owned these houses since he was in his early 20's (we're both 41). The house next door needs some serious work, we just don't have the money (always looking for free stuff if anyone gets rid of anything to make it liveable) so we all live in the small house.

There is still a huge field behind us that is now sadly owned by someone else. I still consider it our backyard.

Today was harvesting day. Now, most people would call me a city girl since I grew up in Okemos. I consider myself a "half" city girl lol. See, my oldest sister (18 years older) had a ranch outside of Saugatuck. For years it was one of only 3 houses for many miles. She had just about every kind of animal a farm would have, but she specialized in horses for 4H. Her father is a multi-millionaire (mine didn't do so bad, but not as good as hers).

A couple of days after school ended, I would go stay with her, and live there until a couple of days before it started. I not only loved it because I am a country girl at heart, but because at home I was restricted a LOT because of my life-long health problems. At Vicki's I wasn't.

Aric has lived in this town his whole life (and in these houses as long except a couple of years) so this stuff is really no big deal to him. To me it is. It's not that I haven't seen it or been around it. In fact, I got to drive a combine when I was about 15 down a field (not to harvest of course) so it's not new.

I love farmers. I am an amature photographer and the things I love to photograph the most are abandoned homes, farms, cars and farmers at work. Today was a big day for me. I didn't have to go far this time because it was right in my backyard!!

With that said, if anyone wants to add me on facebook (where my daughter says it's kinda weird that I have more photo albums than most of her friends), I can be found under Keyt or Katherine Harrington!

JC, your rooster looks just like my EE

I've never done the chicken tractor thing but when I asked about it, many people pointed out that they weren't very good in places with lots of snow--too hard to move around
