Good afternoon everyone!
Well, it certainly feels like fall around here! Not just for the temp either!
Aric, his daughter Kathrine (no I didn't miss the middle e lol) who will be 20 on Wednesday and my daughter Angellica who will be 20 on the 26th all live in a tiny house that's been in Aric's family since his grandfather built it in the 50's. About 20 feet away is another house that his great grandparents built 100+ years ago. A long time ago they owned 400+ acres. Now it's down to about an acre. Aric has owned these houses since he was in his early 20's (we're both 41). The house next door needs some serious work, we just don't have the money (always looking for free stuff if anyone gets rid of anything to make it liveable) so we all live in the small house.
There is still a huge field behind us that is now sadly owned by someone else. I still consider it our backyard.
Today was harvesting day. Now, most people would call me a city girl since I grew up in Okemos. I consider myself a "half" city girl lol. See, my oldest sister (18 years older) had a ranch outside of Saugatuck. For years it was one of only 3 houses for many miles. She had just about every kind of animal a farm would have, but she specialized in horses for 4H. Her father is a multi-millionaire (mine didn't do so bad, but not as good as hers).
A couple of days after school ended, I would go stay with her, and live there until a couple of days before it started. I not only loved it because I am a country girl at heart, but because at home I was restricted a LOT because of my life-long health problems. At Vicki's I wasn't.
Aric has lived in this town his whole life (and in these houses as long except a couple of years) so this stuff is really no big deal to him. To me it is. It's not that I haven't seen it or been around it. In fact, I got to drive a combine when I was about 15 down a field (not to harvest of course) so it's not new.
I love farmers. I am an amature photographer and the things I love to photograph the most are abandoned homes, farms, cars and farmers at work. Today was a big day for me. I didn't have to go far this time because it was right in my backyard!!
With that said, if anyone wants to add me on facebook (where my daughter says it's kinda weird that I have more photo albums than most of her friends), I can be found under Keyt or Katherine Harrington!
