To be honest, can't remember now. The vet gave us the antibiotic, could have been baytril, not sure as it was at least 10 years ago. However, it worked. It was Galahad, you know how we loved that boy!

I'll never forget when he won that Best of Breed when he was such an old goat!

Yeah, he was our baby! Who else would have surgery on a 9 year old bunny, then give them sub-q fluids for 3 days until they were strong enough to drink on their own again?! Ok, probably a lot of us crazies on here!

Guess I finally found a place where I fit in!

I'm glad I don't do xmas shopping. It's funny seeing everyone on facebook talking about still having a lot to shop for. When I did shop, I would usually have it done by Dec 1. But when I worked in retail, it was nice to always be busy with the last-minute shoppers!

350 buckeyes?? Those remind me of my mom. She had an antique dining room table with 6 inserts. She would put them all in and in a week it would be full of trays for the neighbors, day care families, teachers and people that worked for my dad (he was the administrator of the nursing home in Okemos for 20 years). Buckeyes were one of the things she made. I've had them a few times since her death 10 years ago, but none of them were the same as my mom's! It's things like that that I wish I had her write down recipes because she had secrets to all the candy and cookies she made!

Well last night we noticed that Gizmo's head was tilting to the side much more than normal. Jen, I'm beginning to wonder if your original diagnosis was right. It also seems he's not drinking as much anymore either...well, unless it's out of the dog bowl for some reason. Ugh!

I would recommend starting Gizmo on a treatment plan asap. It's not always something that can be cured though, I'm not going to lie, wryneck is usually a disease that will just keep getting worse no matter what you do. His headtilt will keep getting worse until he just rolls constantly. What kind of a diet is he on? If you're wanting to try to save him I would start him on a drug called Baytril. If he's under 10lbs you'll give him .5cc orally for 10 days. (although injection is usually easier on thier stomaches) During this time it is very important that he eats and drinks. Family Fare has fresh parsley in the produce section(either kind is fine) and it's only $1 for a batch of it. Parlsey is a great natural stimulant to make him want to eat and you can give him just a few "sticks" of it every day. I would also get a bottle of unflavored pedialyte and mix it 50/50 with his normal water. He needs to always have access to clean water! If you want to try I have a bottle of Baytril and can draw you up enough to give to him. If he's getting worse it needs to be given to him asap. I'll be in Eaton Rapids wednesday and thursday and you can come get it from me at the hospital or I can deliver it to you. Let me know some time tonight so that if you want to try it I can bring it with me tomorrow!

We took a trip to Horrock's the other day and stocked up on all sorts of greens. He's been getting parsley the last couple of days. I started giving him Pedialyte when his weird behavior first started but now he won't drink his water, only the water in the dog bowl when he's out running around the porch. You would be my ultimate hero if we could get the med off of you! I'd be happy to meet you there just tell me when and where. I will owe you BIG TIME!! Every time I look at him I get tears in my eyes because he's such a sweet bunny!!

What brings this on anyway? Is it something we did? I can't find an answer to that online anywhere!!!

I'll draw up the meds and bring it to work with me. You don't owe me anything, I'm just glad to help! I'm available anytime between 10am-4pm. Just call my cell phone and let me know when you're heading my way 517-243-6735 and I'll meet you in the parking lot with it. (if I don't answer leave me a message and I'll call you right back!) Is he being fed a pellet diet at all? Try putting some of the pedialyte in the dog bowl...won't hurt anything if anyone else drinks out of it. Can you bring him with you so I can take a look at him? It helps a lot to be able to see the rabbit to make sure it's not something else.
Wry neck can be brought on by a number of things, usually stress about something, hard to say what caused it but I wouldn't worry about it being something you did. Rabbits with an underlying immune problem are more likely to show signs and some say dehydration is a factor...which is why I stressed about him having access to water at all times.

I don't see dehydration being too much of a problem. Between the 3 of us we are always checking on animals to make sure water supplies aren't frozen. He was perfectly fine til one morning while feeding everyone I noticed he wasn't keeping his eyes open or holding his head up. That very day I rushed out and got some Pedialyte then came home to msg Vicki for advice because I got both of our rabbits from her. I hate seeing any animal in pain or sick in any way!!

Yes he's being fed pellets. He eats those, any fruits or veggies he's given. I didn't think of putting the Pedialyte in the dog bowl. I'm not sure if it's the Pedialyte or the water bottle he's having problems with but I know the water isn't going down in the water bottle so he has a small bowl in his cage. I just feel so bad.

I think we're picking my daughter up but I will call you when we're swinging by

In light of the very long day I had today, my next breeding project: Geese whose feathers spontaneously fall out upon death.
