I got pecked by a broody for the first time last night. It was my little buff silkie, she's so tiny that I didn't even think she would be anywhere near being broody yet. I know it has everything to do with hormones and what-not but doesn't it seem like it's a tad early for that (season-wise)?? Not to mention, she is sitting on a GOLF BALL lol

Well, after worrying all day, it seems surgery #46 is ON! Aric snowblowed both driveways, the path to both houses, the path to the dogs run, chicken run (basically most of the backyard lol) and two neighbors driveways. Then he shoveled the duck and chicken runs. The ducks were out most of the day despite the depths but the chickens were kept inside until he shoveled their run. Sad thing is he had a bad shoulder before he did all of this now he's really hurting. I offered to help but he doesn't want me worse off than I am before surgery. Good point I guess.

I checked with friends on facebook all day to see how the roads in Lansing were coming. They all seem fine, and Aric said most of M99 was good. I didn't get a call (yet anyway) to reschedule my surgery (every surgery today was canceled according to the news) so all is good! Now all I need to do is pack, eat myself silly (because I can't eat after midnight) and I'll be good to go!

I probably won't be posting for a while so if I don't talk to you in a while, I hope everyone survives the rest of this winter (Phil didn't see his shadow!!) and I'll talk to you soon!!

Not a bad price for the coop itself, really, and it comes with laying hens -- just in case anyone is in the market.

I guess I will just have to plug the camera into the computer and make it work that way, but no internet at the house makes it kinda hard to do when you leave the camera at the house......

Very sad day here! I went out to close the coop up for the night and found that our beloved Miss Barb had passed.

I'm not sure what had happened, I was out there a few hours earlier shoveling and checking on them and she was absolutely fine. She was bloody on her bottom when I found her but she had not prolapsed. She also had a raw spot where she was molting but I think the others were pecking at her after she had passed. She was only 8 months old.

The worst part is she was my 5 year old daughter's absolute favorite! I haven't told her yet (to close to bedtime to get her worked up) and it's just going to break her heart. We also lost Buttercup last week to prolapse. It's been a rough couple of weeks! They were our 2 green layers.
