Aww..he is a cutie, I love Jersey's. Mine was born the 2nd week of Jan and she thinks she is a puppy too. You should also look at this website for any help: http://familycow.proboards.com/index.cgi The tree of knowledge section is wonderful. Did you burn off his horns yet? I thought doing that was horrible. Have fun!!!!!

He doesn't have horns just yet, however I need to go find some castrating bands (?) to do the deed, poor guy. I would LOVE to have taken his sister with us but she was uber expensive. I've never tasted fresh milk

BTW, I'm getting the itch for chicks... I need to wait ONE more month and then I'll bust out my incubator.. I'm trying to save up my egg money to buy a auto-turner bc I can't keep up with the manual turning this semester

Hi!!! Ok...got a topic to toss around here. I had some people get chicks from me and they both asked about breeding practices when it came to having a roo and hen that were "brother and sister" breed. I've never really thought about it with chickens....any thoughts? They all bought chicks that were sibblings....I told them it was up to them but there wasn't really a reason they couldn't breed.

Today was wonderful! I can't wait until tomorrow...my husband has the day off so I'm going to have him watch the kids all morning and I'm going to go out in our lovely 30* weather and clean the rabbit cages and chicken coop!! Is it wrong that I'm excited?!?

Nearly all livestock is inbred to some degree, helps to secure traits, especially if they are recessive genes like chestnut coloring in horses or blue eyes.
