One of my girls was sitting there with a huge wad of fur in her mouth. I stuck the nest box in her cage. She looked so funny with a mouth full of straw, she had as much crammed in her mouth as she could carry. Glad I'm going to TSC tomorrow to get another nursery cage. I am gonna try really hard to walk by the chicks if they have them.............. honest!

So bummed - mom had the babies lastnight (4 huges ones) and she didn't have the nest ready or know what to do. She had them lastnight and they all froze. I did try to warm them this morning... but they were too far gone.

27 Days Until April 1

Morning, Michiganders! I hope all those in the Mason/Howell/Fowlerville area who got ice are warm and safe. Sounds like there are some accidents on the freeways -- both 127 and 96. Be careful if you're on your way out in that area today.

The rain is supposed to roll in later today and it looks like they're actually predicting a decent rainfall; almost an inch in this area.

Our female American Blue goose spent all day yesterday stealing straw off a round bale on one side of the property and carrying it to the other side, up by the house, and stashing it in the dog house (that the dogs never use). And then, late yesterday afternoon, she laid her first egg of the season in there. She has a path worn in the snow where she walked back and forth literally ALL DAY LONG.

Hopefully this means she's going to feel broody once she lays a clutch and will hatch her own (and maybe some others, too). All that work can't possibly be for naught.

Olive, I can imagins she would be doing all that work if she were not going broody.

Good luck!

I went out this a.m. to take care of the chickens and told DH that the steps were pretty icy, did he still think we should go to town. He said we would be fine so I got changed and we walked out, down the steps and he decided that it was too icy to go

I guess he didn't realize I told him it was icy out.

I guess we will try again tomorrow.

Hello everyone
I have not been here in a very long time. I am trying to find a home for a rooster. Someplace where he will not be a meal. He is an ameracuna turken mix. He is a lovely boy, he gets along well with people. But is loud...and I do not like what he is doing to my girls. Also I still have a cranky neighbor next door that hates my chickens and feels it is her one mission is life to call the Township every chance she gets. The state did come to the house and has certified us a poultry facility so that means we are covered under the Right to Farm Act. BUT.....I also have a pot belly pig, that you guessed it....is against the local ordinaces as well. I do not need nor desire anyone from the township poking around my door.

Andy is free to a good home...he is cream and black...has a bow tie. He was born July 26th 2010. He is a big boy, standing taller than my hens. We are willing to drive to meet you halfway. He really needs a new home. If you are interested PLEASE message me. Thank you..Susanne
