And you live in MICHIGAN?! That's our state food behind pasties, Kogel hot dogs, Vernors and Blatz beer. Now THERE'S a meal.

If you ever move out of Michigan...and I lived in Florida for 30 years....you really MISS all of the above!! Anytime I found Vernor's I was a happy lady!

LOL! Nope, not a one. I'm mostly German with 1/4 Native American mixed in for good measure.

I know, I know. I'm a disgrace. LOL! Truth is, I'm just not a big fan of any sweets other than chocolate -- the darker the better -- and cheesecake, but only New York Style and even that I prefer with chocolate of some kind. Hard candies, gummies, fruity type candies, pastries, doughnuts, etc would rot in this house if it were just me.

When I interviewed a few years back in the western U.P., one of my first thoughts was, "All these people are Finns ... WHERE am I going to get paczkis?"

I told this story on the family life thread before X-mas, but I was told to buy 2 kiszkas at Jay's Meat market in Standish before heading down. I went Sunday before X-mas and they were ALL OUT OF KISZKA! (hmm... this could be turned into a polka "All out of kiszka, all out of kiszka, all out of kiszka, what we gonna eat?"). SO I asked the woman at the counter, "Do you have any kiszka in the back?"

"Nope sorry. Tuesday is Kiszka delivery day."

I was able to buy 2 kiszka on Wed. before Christmas and Christmas was saved (also picked up some Ma Cohen creamed herring to make dinner complete) except for the whole tree falling down and all the ornaments broken thing ...

When I posted this story on the family section, a lot of former Michiganiacs all remembered our good sausages here in Michigan and said they don't have stuff like that in Texas or California or whever.

I found out years ago, never order a hot dog outside of Michigan. We are so spoiled on Koegel's hot dogs! And can you get a Boston Cooler anywhere else? (Vernors and ice cream shake for those who've never had one)
