If you watch a rooster mate it can quite often be very rough on the poor hen's back. I decided that if the rooster's toe nails weren't quite so long and sharp it could reduce the damage. I decided that the best way to blunt those nails would be with a Dremel tool and a sanding disk. Not only can I reduce the length of the nail, I can make it slightly rounded and eliminate any sharp edges.

Now if I could figure out how to lessen the bald spots he creates by hold the feathers on the back of the hen's head.

Good morning everyone...it looks like it may be beautiful outside today.
Eighteen years ago today, I gave birth to my first born. I have no idea what my sons plans are for the day.

My frizzle went broody again a few days ago. I slipped nine fertile silver sebright eggs underneath her- and removed the duck eggs. Threw them away. I have seven baby muscovies out with mom, and nine in the house- from the bad broody gone AWOL on her eggs...I tried to give the babies to the mama muscovy- and she would have taken them, until I came out there and they all ran to me.

After that, she tried biting them and chasing them. Anyone want muscovies? I have a surplus.

I also have three crowing oegb and two pullets. Someone take all of them.

I have to go to the store this morning for a birthday cake- and then I must get my baby cucumber plants and pepper plants in the ground.

Even though it would have been an escapee..to see an Egyptian goose would be a treat IMO!

I am new to the world of chicken keeping...I always talked about it especially when I was still working waiting to retire. Now I am finally working on my coop and run. I am thinking of going with pullets instead of chicks as I do not have a brooder. I am in ogemaw county looking for some laying hens let me know if any members up this way will part with any of their flock. I also have a friend looking for silkies. Thanks ahead of time for your responses.

Hello shawnhunts and

I have some absolutely beautiful and rare (well not so much) French Black Copper Marans that I would be more than happy to part with for your flock. The only problem is that they're all roosters!

But at least one beautiful black rooster with feathered legs, maybe two depending on how many hens you plan on keeping, would be an awesome flock protector, if you are allowed to have roosters. I will be coming to Chickenstock and bringing them with me as well as any extra hens or roos I decide to part with. As mentioned, that would be a great place to pick up whatever you're looking for. Hope to see you there!
