Only because the one is fairly aggressive towards the young chicks. He climbs the fence to get into their pen. He is also starting to crow and that may not go over with my 1 jerk neighbor. Other than that, he is not a bad bird.

I really don 't want to cull, but some of the things I've read have suggested that my ratio of male to females might be 1 too many.

I'm taking a "wait and see" approach, so it might not even be an issue.

Yorkchick, it was Townline Hatchery in Zeeland.

I considered the price per pullet reasonable ($3 for custom orders), given what they'd lay over their lives, and knowing I was really getting what I asked for made a huge difference, given my first not so satisfying experience with TSC (buggers!!!)....

Morning everyone...
Keyt you take delightful pictures. I don't know how you get such good closeups!
My Jerseys went into lockdown yesterday. I have 21 BBS in there...half from Maria Hall and Half from Wynette. Really excited...it is my last hatch. Opa I read also that you leave all the chicks in the incubator until they are done pipping or zipping or hatching. However...sometimes it gets crowded in there so I have taken them out inbetween like Keyt also. I might wait this time but as I said it gets so crowded! I put a divider in my incubator to keep Maria's apart from Wynettes. I will take them out and band their legs for i.d. and then vaccinate them. I've been practicing on oranges this week!

DH and I finally started our perimeter fence yesterday. Last week a neighbors dog got one of my hens so I will be sooooo happy when the fencing is done. The same neighbors dog got hold of one last year and is not suppose to be near here! The neighbors are friends of ours and they know I'm upset about it.
Well....looks like we have another FREEEZZE warning for tonight!! IF we don't get this freeze...we may just get some apples on our trees for the first time since we planted them 7 years ago!!

RaZ, why not take a road trip to the lake and stop on by on your way home? You can buy as many as you want if you show up at their door...
