Actually, my worst time ever crossing the Mackinac Bridge was when I was returning from a job interview in Rudyard in mid June. There was a thunderstorm blowing in from the northeast and I was heading south on the bridge. Even though I was driving a big pickup truck and going slow, there were a few times I thought we might go over the edge.

Another time when I crossed the bridge (this time with a horse trailer) it was a foggy day with the fog hovering right on the lake. So when I was on the bridge, all I could see below me was fog, it was like floating above the clouds, kind weird and ethereal.

I am happy to report that after a very difficult and LONG hatch period, and worrisome time in the brooder, this duckling is doing SO much better!!

I had to help him. He was in distress and fortunately I had experience with helping animals out of eggs after breeding, raising and rescuing reptiles for over 15 years!

It was touch and go for a while. I thought he had a neurological defect because he couldn't hold his head up or walk all day. So I put him in with the other 6 and it was like he decided it was time to get some energy!

He's still not using his legs like the others did, but I'm hoping with time he'll be ok. He's at least holding his head up and eating!

I now have 5 chick eggs cracked and more than that chirping. Funny since I had the dates wrong thinking it was Monday and it's actually Friday and here they are hatching already. All the ducks were early too!

Question though, I have one that's cracked all along the side and I see a beak popping through. Could it still be ok if it's coming out of the side instead of the end?

Keyt, I have no desire to offend you but I can't help but wonder why you ask for advise when you've already decided that you know more than those offering their experience?

This is my Sizzle that was hatched out nine weeks ago. The little bugger would not cooperate with me trying to get a picture- but anyone want to guess a sex for me?
