I love observing the color transformation their bodies go thru. To start with a gold head and dark body and then wind up with a gold body and black head is just too cool. I've found them to be my most consistant laying bantams. They do go broody while my hamburgs have never shown any indication of broodiness. I currently have a Vorwerk hen sitting on 6 eggs that are due to hatch on the 5th. I initial thought 6 was a good number but after observing her for several days I seeing how wide she fluffs out, I think she probably could have handled a dozen.

Rainy days need an aw gee moment

HUH? Where the hell did that come from? What are you talking about?

Yes, I ask questions, but almost no one answers, not here or in the other forums so I have to go with my previous experience. You have had something against me for a while so I just take the beatings and go

I just wish the bantams would hatch!!
The duckling from yesterday is running around with the rest.

For some reason my computer is doubling and messing up posts, here and facebook.

To Opa..or anyone...

I honestly don't know what you're talking about. I AM offended. This forum is for both learning and sharing experiences. I have never claimed to be an expert nor will I, but I have no idea how many times I have said "To each their own" because that's what this is!

I would have appreciated if you took your attack private, but since you didn't, I will leave this response here as well....

I am offended because numerous times I have asked your advice specifically on something and you have jumped right over me and commented on someone else's post, so I quit directing any posts to you. But at the same time I understand you may have more experience than most of us here, but what works for you may not work for everyone!

I have NEVER denied I am fairly new at this chicken thing. Aric and I grew up around them (well, only me in the summers at my sister's ranch), but we have only been doing it ourselves for a year. As I said before, all my experience comes from goats, pigs and reptiles and various other exotic house pets. Hell some people have said I'm the best person they know to talk to about reptiles but i often disagree. I certainly don't make them feel stupid if they do things completely differently than I do! Anyway, if you came to our house you would probably have lots of negative things to say about how we do things

but believe it or not, we have changed how we do some things simply by reading posts from this forum!

There have also been times when I have posted questions here or the other parts of this forum and no one says anything for a whole day or two, so I have to make decisions that may not be right. I have also discovered times when people did answer me because I didn't check in here for a day more because I was in too much pain to sit at the computer, but I don't have the brain or energy enough to go back 2-3 pages to read it until much later. I have often wondered if maybe I'm the wrong person to be posting here when I can't remember anything after I read it or even understand it because my shunt tends to have a mind of it's own! But Aric doesn't like posting in forums (sometimes he'll read it but that's all) so I either read it out loud or write stuff down. I suppose some might think someone with my various health problems shouldn't be doing the chicken/duck thing, but I'm not as weak or stupid as you may think! Slow and always in pain, yes, but not completely useless!

So I'm sorry you (or anyone) thinks so little of me despite the fact I still look up to you. Aric and I discussed this for a good half hour and I told him he and my daughter should go to chickenstock but I won't. I'm afraid I might make the air a little uncomfortable as it seems I have here. For that I apologize to you, Opa, and anyone else.

Oh man, can we all do buddy hugs here?

I do have a question! I have two silkies, and they don't roost at night. They huddle on the floor with each other. I have three levels of bars for them to roost on, should I put them on the lower bar at night to see if they get it or will they always huddle on the floor?

None of my 5 silkies roost. They either sleep under or on the corners of the nesting boxes or in the corner of the barn huddled up with all of the pullets. Most of my chickens don't roost except for a handful, even though there's more than enough room to.

Keyt1969, it's very simple:

*You post lengthy articles in this forum subsection about various problems you have or have had about your life, especially concerning your health.

*You post about doing activities that someone with your aforementioned problems would be better off not doing.

*Someone else on this forum who has read about your travails and cares about you offers some advice they think will be beneficial to you.

*You verbally eviscerate that person for daring to question your abilities.

*You post about how you injure yourself.

*Repeat.

Go back and read some of your posts, especially the way you tore into Mom2All a couple months ago. That. Was. Ridiculous. Opa just finally said something about it (and he didn't even say it in a way that was remotely nasty).

You actually question why no one responds to your inquires - they're afraid of what kind of response you're going to give. What you post has repercussions, and people will react accordingly. Just because it's on a computer screen, and not face to face, does not temper the blow one bit.

If you don't like what someone posts in regards to your life or activities, ignore it, or just say "Thanks, but I got it covered.", and move on to happier subjects. Heck, you can ignore me, tear me apart, whatever you want, but there are nice people on this forum that have probably been hurt deeply with poorly chosen words on your part.

No one here has ANYTHING personal against you AT ALL, and I don't understand where these burst of pure vitriol come from.

I may be just a lurker, but I don't want to read that. I want to read about joyous hatchings, playful birds, happy family life, weather curse-outs, and get some useful drive-by advice on poultry and life in general in the process.
