You guys crack me up, hes a old soldier and he can fix and build just about anything and he indulges most of my lunacy, so I kinda like the old goat. He is NEVER allowed to feed anything around here, if it doesnt come out of a can forget about it, he would feed my dogs chicken scratch my kids dog food and the chickens, I don't even want to think about it...

The guy eats 9 eggs a day so he kinda likes the chicken thing.. 1 kid eats 3 eggs every day for breakfast and the 18 year old bakes ALOT.
I took him horseback riding one time he was scared to death, note he ha s been to multiple war zones but a pony makes him cry..LOL

Hey Fife, there are much easier ways than electrically converting a problem husband. I just got a divorce!

Our neighbors dropped by last night and DH was telling them about the "conversion" and how he thought he could save the insurance company some money by standing in a puddle of water and grabbing something electrical!

Good morning everyone. My crazy silkies acted like they didn't want to go to bed last night. It was near 10pm before those two finally went in and as I was nearing the coop to close them in....they jump out and go galivanting around the run.

Goofy birds.

I hope everyone has a wonderful day!

Thanks for the pond suggestions, everyone. I need to pick up water lettuce and duck weed. I had it- for a day- it looked great, then the mallard orphans managed a great escape and they ate it all. My husband said the pump that I just recently bought is garbage. The motor is shot. That makes me sad. So, now my waterfall is not running.

*sigh*

The silkie hens I got at chicken stock are being very loud this morning. My frizzle is joining in. I figure the silkies would like to lay an egg, but havent found an area they approve of yet. The baby chicks in my kitchen are throwing a fit- I think their heat lamp is too strong. I am going to move them into a larger cage.

I work this afternoon, and I need to squeeze in a trip to the feed store this morning. Busy busy day.

I hope you all have a great one...two more days til the weekend.

Mom2em, you might want to check out craigslist for your water plants....sometimes I get mine pretty cheap that way. I'd recommend the water hyacinth and water lettuce because they will multiply quickly, covering your pond surface, hence blocking the sunlight. Forgive me because I haven't followed all the posts related to your pond probs, but you might want to consider a UV light to keep the water clearer. If you don't have a bubbler at the bottom, get one....movement is good for a pond:) I've had my koi pond for about 10 years and I think I do pretty well with it using what I said above. About twice during the course of the summer, I use an algaecide that you can buy at any pet supply store or wal mart that costs me about $10. It does not harm my fish or frogs, but will kill snails. I'm certainly no expert, but if you have any questions that I can help with, feel free to pm me. Good luck!

I may have a rooster!!!! I may have a rooster!!! I was out feeding and doing chores this morning and hadn't yet gotten to the Chanty's. I think they were getting upset, when all of a sudden I heard this WIERD noise.....I do believe it was a lame attempt at "cock-a-doodle-doo" from the Chanty pen. I am thhrilled. Can't tell which one did it, I kinda tried to coax another noise out by shaking the food bowl without giving them any and they all just looked at me like "come on, give it up already"
DH won't be happy about this, but I'll try convincing him they are a rare breed and need a chance to make some more babies.

I sooo wanted to keep my rooster. :: slumps :: He is in a good home now and they might actually show him at the fair in a couple of weeks! That makes me feel like a proud momma and happy he's in a good home.

I will pray that you can convince your DH that he is good to have.

Whew, I'm glad you found a little humor in that Fife. Afterward I realized this is a very nice husband who is having a serious medical procedure and that's not funny. It was just that taking the sentence out of context made me laugh. Thanks for not being offended.

I'm horrified, grossed out and embarassed to admit this, but I think I have a bug problem. Opa and Farmerboy, I know you haven't put my chickens in with your general population yet, so please check them out before you do. I was in the coop late yesterday and noticed what I thought was sawdust on the wall in a strange area. My coop is brand new, built with new lumber from Home Depot, caulked and painted with three thick coats of white paint. I noticed this sawdust two days before in the same spot and brushed it off. Why was it there again? I looked closer and it was moving!!! Oh.my.god! How could this be?? How could I have mites or lice in my coop? The chickens don't look like they have them, their feathers are nice and clean, not ratty looking. Obviously they were either on the chicks when I got them from TSC or on the chicks I got from the BCM breeder. I have had no other chickens in or near my coop, only my babies. I'm so sorry Opa and Farmerboy. I have always sat here smugly thinking how clean my coop was and how I could/would never have THAT kind of problem. So now I begin the task of taking everthing out, cleaning, dusting with Sevin, dusting the chickens or using Frontline on them and trying to get rid of the problem. I'm sorry I have caused this problem for you and wanted to let you know you need to dust them before you allow them in your coop. Does anyone have any advice for me before I begin? I will go over to the Pred and Pest thread to check that out as well.
