does anyone here sell fertile eggs or know where I can buy some? I live in Newaygo County and dont want to travel too far.
I am hoping to find some rhode island reds or easter eggers to hatch out. I have two broody hens waiting for some good eggs.

Hillbilly city girl, Hillbilly Hen is in your neck of the woods - she may be able to help you out with fertile eggs, although I don't know if she has the breeds you are looking for.

With regard to Mary's question about the trumpty thing, A2 was in the right church but not the right pew. What her link pictures is a trombone sprayer. It's used for spraying liquids. I was talking about a trombone duster. You fill it with powder and the the slide trombone action puffs dust out the end. Home Depot carries an old style metal one for about $15. I had one and can't remember who borrowed it. The last time I can remember having it was close to 30 years ago so I doubt if the individual who borrowed is going to return it. They make a extremely efficient dust applicator that works on a vortex principle. It holds substantially more and you spin a side mounted crank to operate it. They are made of plastic and cost 3 to 4 times more so the old style metal one will work just fine for me. I will go tomorrow, pick one up, and post a picture of it.

Sadly, I'm sure all of you are familar with the term "suicide by cop". I discovered today that one of my hens has decided to commit suicide by Opa. She's a beautiful BLRW that I got from Vicki2x2. She goes broody often and I've never used her to hatch eggs with until this past Monday. I placed her in a cage with a nest box, food, water, and 9 Deleware eggs that the Hillbilly Hen had given me. She immediately sat as expected, and I was looking forward to a good hatch. On Wednesday I discovered she wasn't sitting on two of the eggs. When I placed them back under her I found the remains of an egg. Yesterday two more eaten eggs and today two more. She's now back with the rainbow flock and the four remaining eggs are in the incubator. I tried to get two other broodys to take the nest but they showed little interest so I didn't spend anymore time with them. Even with the rollout nest box I occasionally find the remains of an eaten egg and I think she is probably the culprit. So now she is destined to join all the other birds that now reside in my freezer.
