So I have a couple questions for you all.
1.How long will it take for my chicks to stop acting scared everytime I see them? They are 4 weeks old now and I feed them and change their water daily, as well as handle them and talk to them to get them used to me. Once I pick one up and hold it for a while it will calm down and seem okay, its just when I reach in the box to feed them they all start running around and then pile up in the corner.

Question number 2. What is a good treat to feed them. I have been working on getting them to eat out of my hand so they associate me with food and good things, but I am not sure what I should be giving them as treats at such a young age.

I have taken the girls outside a couple times now and they love catching bugs and one even got a worm the other day and that was pretty entertaining. I just want them to start getting used to me and my husband, but I am not sure if there is anything else besides just handling them everyday that I should be doing.

I went home for lunch today and one of my crazy girls laid an egg on the floor of the coop.

good thing I cleaned the coop out last night. I have one girl in time-out in the garage.....she looks so sad right now. Maybe she will learn her lesson and be nicer. Any advice on the length of her jail sentence?

The australorp I got from nigellas escaped the coop and went about happily forag the backyard. I let her have her minutes of bliss before I rounded her up. I almost wanted to leave her out there...she looked so happy.

I know, the incredible honey and I'm sure there are other reasons but I think I'd buy my honey and find a less painful hobby. I guess you just have to be a bee keeper to get it, huh?

Today is going to be a great day!!! I get to see my Podiatrist (whom I have desperately been needing to see for 2 yrs), then we'll fish to pass some time, then all 3 of us are working at Common Ground where we get to see Charlie Daniels and Aaron Lewis (lead singer of Staind) for free!!!!

it's just terrible.

Why did my beesies have to be so mean? All I wanted to do was to check on them. They must have had a bad day…oh well, they’ll get smoked next time. On the bright side, the sting on my upper arm makes it look like I have a massive biceps.

You got it. It is the same with horse people, which I belong to as well, and chicken people, which we all belong to. Everything has it’s good and bad…and painful. I let my guard down yesterday, I paid the price. Thankfully the neighbor didn’t call the cops seeing me run around in the back fields as though I had rabies. I did hear that bee stings help with arthritis, so I am ready for the healing…heeeaaaallllll. Not feeling it yet though…
