That's not too far. I emailed someone in Marne which is about the same distance the other way. If they don't respond tomorrow I'll check out the Lincoln Lake idea.

Thanks.

Has it crowed? Growing any spurs? Didnt crow here, no spurs.
Yay me...I am glad you have him.

I have been telling the Showgirl that it MUST be a girl. A girl named Shmoo. Must must must. I hope it listens. And you were right- its not white. Its like a sandy color..sort of. Like a sandy splash. Very cool.

I THINK one of the turkens that I got from Farmerboy wasnt listening when he said its a girl. Either that, or it is racing its sister to grow its comb bigger than hers..

The little serama/silkie chick from Keyt thinks its a helicopter.

fun fun fun.

told ya I would when I figger'd out who was crowing. I think it's fitting to name my first rooster after someone who everybody likes so much. Now he has alot to live up to.

This is actually a great idea, ChicwannaB! We can certainly hope that the name inspires Opa Rooster to be the "nicest rooster you will meet all day."

I give our leftover fishing bait to the chickens and ducks and it's hilarious to watch them fight over it. What's even funnier is when we give them fish and they get a hold of the fish's swim bladder (the really long sac that keeps them floating) and it's like a funny game of tug of war! lol

How's that? They're so funny when they're that young!

The cool weather must be keeping people in bed today. I would be interested in hearing how everyone's gardens are growing. Mine has just started really taking off, it's pretty late compared to other years. The acorn squash is just now beginning to set fruit, is that normal (I've never grown acorn squash before)? I got some potatoes yesterday and I must say, there's nothing like a freshly dug spud fried in butter with onion and chives.

You are right A2....I sooo got up late today. It felt so good. My garden has taken off too. My tomatoes really popped this week. I have a lot of cherry tomatoes! My potatoes are kicking off too. I have some peaking out of the ground so I need to cover them up. my cucumers have JUST bloomed and there isn't anything yet so maybe they will pop next week. I hope everyone has a lovely day.

Question: It's day 2 in alcatraz for one of my little fiesty girls. How long should I keep her in jail before I mover her little mean butt back into the flock? I've seen varying ideas on the forums I am just wondering what you guys have done.

So far I've gotten a ton of beans, snap peas and lettuce and picked a few summer squash and zucchini. My raspberries are ready, so that's been a yummy treat. I've got lots of green tomatoes, but nothings been turning, which is making me crazy, because I really want some. lol.
How was it growing your potatoes? I've heard they are a lot of maintenance, but want to try it because I keep reading that non-organic potatoes from the grocer are one of the worst foods you can eat.

I'm north of most of you so my garden will be behind. We have had swiss chard and lettuce for a month....my carrots are about 6 inches tall but haven't pulled to check...potatoes not flowered yet...cauliflower about the size of a fifty cent piece...lots of tomatoes but green....egg plant just started to put forth the flowers and peppers just starting...blueberries almost ripe and picking raspberries this week.
I have 7 apples this year!!! Had the dwarf apple trees for 5=7 years but always froze after setting buds. These 7 apples better be darn delicious!!
