It HAS to be the fortified vitamen water (durvet powder). LOL That is the only thing I've done differently over the past couple of weeks (that and my girls are getting older). I can't imagine how many eggs I will get once they all start laying.

I have to go out and give them some meal worms.

Welcome Taprock! You'll enjoy this crew of people

Yesterday I got 10 eggs but today I only got 4. My pullets haven't started laying yet. I am looking forward to the Icelandics laying as they will be the only white eggs I get.

Welcome taprock!

Huston's Happy Hens :

Our coop is being overrun with mosquitos - suggestions welcome - yes, there is water in there w/vinegar in it - the water is changed regularly and there's NEVER been any evidence of breeding in there going on - we have gotten 4.5 inches of water in the last 2-3 days; perhaps they are looking for dry spots?? - we are leaving on vacation on tuesday and i need to get this under control b4 we leave - what is safe to use w/the flock?? -
btw, we have 5 broody hens if anyone wants to bring some eggs over, the girls would be forever happy!

I have been using this in my coop as a spray. It said it is for mosquitoes as well as mites. Good luck!

we do have a large ventilation fan + we do have fly strips - no flies - just skeeters - keep the suggestions commin!

I like to use Adams flea mite and tick spray from the farm store. It is for dogs and cats, but I just put a bit on my wood perches or on the nest area. Keeps flies, mites, gone and the hens can't eat it like they can eat powders. I just spray it on the perch or woodchips in the morning and ventilate the coop well all day. I also do the nest area one day and the perches another. That way the smell is not too strong when I close the coop for the night. I don't like to use chemicals on my birds/eggs any more than I have to!

Thank YOU - thanks YOU!
