My goodness, they are quite a pair of lookers! They have matured so well!

Haha, I am sure after that long in the car with the chickens, one wouldn't quite want to drive with them again! Weren't they really chatty on the drive south with your sister? Plus that DE I put with them to try and dry up the inevitable poo that they'd make, made them and the container super dusty

not my best plan ever!

awww, she survived and probably is all the better for it. I gave her a Black-Eyed Susan vine I put in a beautiful pitcher with a rose on it, and a bar of Witch's Brew (goat milk) soap that I bought from someone here at BYC I think, it was violet scent, she liked em.
She got a kick outta them eating from her hand. I told her you'd done a beautiful job hand raising them, they are the sweetest things. except early in the morning when they first get out, they go face to face with their hackles up!!! Look so tough and mean then!!

ya know, their combs don't look anything alike either, Opa's is wide and rounded but Big Johns is narrower and stands a little higher. The bird with the orange band looks alot like it MAY be a roo also, resembles Big John alot, but I haven't heard a thing outta it yet. So, who knows.

The are indeed a pair of fine looking birds. You mentioned that they start each day with raised hackle challenging each other. You can expect that to become more prevalent as they get older. You will want to keep a close watch on them and it may escalate to the point of serious injury. Often cockerels will co-exist with never a hint of a problem and then once they decide they are roosters can become quite violent.

i figger'd as much. I've offered different people a free roo, but so far no takers. I know I will eventually have problems once it's mating time. I do NOT want to freeze anybody because they both deserve to live.

Ok, I can take a hint. I will be getting an incubator for Christmas so no more waiting for a broody hen. I still have not had a hen go broody for me this year. DH is going to close off part of a shed for another breeder pen.

.22, from a distance, when you next see it. If you nail it in the head or chest, it won't know what hit it, no spray.

My Dad, as a troublemaking teenager, once shot a pest skunk. Nailed it right in the head, no spray. One it stopped bleeding, he snuck it in bed with his napping Mom. Grandpa apparently encouraged it! I am told the scream traveled through time

LOL, im not that great of a shot, maybe I can talk DH into giving it a try.....I tend to run and scream when I see a skunk, nothing else just skunks...I am going to be up all night now. UG
