my broody (with the baby popping out of her fluff) is actually a red laced blue (or is it blue laced red) wyandotte bantam. she is looking pretty rough after sitting for over 40 days (her first clutch didnt hatch and by golly she wasnt moving a feather until something hatched so I quickly got her some new eggs and now shes happy and content to have her two mutt babies that I have no idea what they are (one is most likely a phonix/RIR mix and the other maybe a PBR cross ?? I dont know. I can post better pics of them too)

The white chicken is a pullet, hatched on easter day. we ordered Reds and broilers that day and he was an extra in the box, we just thought he/she was an extra broiler, then we noticed he/she wasnt a broiler at all, and thought maybe it was a packing peanut...still have no idea whats going on with him/her. lol

the "campines" tail likes to shoot straight up, but she was trying to go to sleep so she had it tucked under. Plus a few of the roos were mad that I was lurking around the coop with a camera clicking away and making flashes and they had the hens cowering. Wanda is the sweetest, loviest hen ever...I want to know what she is because I would love to have more of her...once she starts laying...I want to find her a rooster if possible. and the fuzzy faced buff little lady isnt so nice but she sure is cute to look at.

Does she have the wyandotte comb? I thought it looked single in that first pic, but they can be deceiving. Either way she's cute.

If you have plenty of sand in your run it should help with the drainage when the snow starts to melt. Here is a pic of my run in the winter. I use greenhouse plastic to cover it only during the winter months and the snow just slides right off. If you click on the link in my siggy you can see more pics of the run and coop.

Thanks Grandma and Opa I will do that (use the 2x4's), I was watching them the other nite and noticed the did not look "comfortable" on the one my hubby put in the coop but then since I am such a newbie chaulked it up to really not knowing anything about chickens. I will swap out both and let you know, but sounds much better to me!

Oh and for uchytil so so sorry for your loss. EVery time I lose one, I tell myself no more because of the pain I feel of their loss. But I still have 3 new ones since my last loss. I just cant imagine my life without my dogs. Be thankful you had her for that long, that you brought her as much joy as she brought you. It will get better! Hang in there.

I was asked what type of chickens I have. I have 5 Silkies, 3 wyandottes, 1 leghorn, 1 black autralorp, 1 isa, 5 cochin mixs.

Thanks for the pictures on different winter runs. I think I will get a hoop house. I have an uncle who know's carpentry thou, and maybe I can sucker him into helping me build a wooden structure for the old glass windows i have been collecting for it.

Also when I am finished with my big coop, I think I will use 2x4s also for perches. I use 1.5 inch dowels now, and they don't seem to like them much, they all still just sit together on the floor.

LOL! Isn't willow-green just a green tinted yellow?

This reminds me of taking my color-blind husband shopping for paint colors. "Honey, do you like Roasted Pepper or Tomato Bisque?" "What color are they?" "Red." "Well, if they're both red then does it really matter?"

And the answer is... to chicken people it does! Heheh!

here you can see a bit of her lacing...shes really pale right now, is that normal? she used to be much more vibrant, her roo is gorgeous. I will try to get a picture of him. He is so faithful to her its not even funny. Shes in the brooder and he only stays out of the henhouse at night, he is my night watchman, otherwise he is with her, right next to the brood box. too bad hes not the baby daddy lol

I hope she goes broody again when I have some of her eggs, she stopped laying about a week before she went broody on me and we already ate her eggs

its a pea comb, just super pale and hard to see here, this pic was taken last week the day her two eggs hatched. Shes giving me the stink eye...just before she lunged for my hand and camera haha she missed.

Any more input on what breed (and the sex of the white one) ??? just trying to get a better idea since apparently I have no clue (such newbie...but loving every minute of it...even the cleaning the coop part...totally in my element here)

ps. today the camp ground we live on is having family camp and we did hayrides and brought the families up to meet some chickens, the goats and my bunnies...all city folk from Chicago..it was highly entertaining. I brought Wanda out (the campine or EE...whatever she is, shes friendly and loves the attention) and she just basked in the attention. The families were so fun and the animals loved it!! I love showing off my other pride and joy's (the first would be my kiddos)

I might have to try the 2x4s too. I haven't gotten to taking down the upper nest boxes. Currently they all crowd up there and huddle together to sleep....even the banties , except the silkies who like cuddling with the food dispenser

. I guess it makes them happy to wake up near their food. A happy image to start off their day huh?
