We are flying out and back to Michigan so there will be time restraints. . However we intend to make the most of it. JEREMIAH JOHNSON..! We have seen it umpteen times! You would probably enjoy reading "Crow Killer" the saga of Liver-eating Johnson, by Raymond W. Thorp and Robert Bunker. Another is "Captured by the Indians" 15 firsthand Accounts, 1750-1870 edited by Frederick Drimmer.

We don't do primitive camping anymore...or attend the rendezvous anymore but it was fun while we did.

Keyt...I'm sorry about your loss....that makes it even sadder when it sounded so sweet.

'Move the Chicken Coop' has been on DH's Honey-Do List for a few months now. At the time we purchased the shed we use as a coop the northwest corner of the yard, right up front was the best place for it, but things have changed. That area is soon to be fenced in and -- hopefully next spring -- will be planted in apple trees. Well, tonight he finally got around to it and let me tell you, I am impressed with how the chickens took it. We waited for them to go in at dusk so we could shut the door, locking them in while we moved the coop. I was concerned if we moved it with them outside they would not find it again to go in at night. Chickens aren't known for being the smartest/most adaptable birds, of course. Now this is not a little coop. It's a full-size, walk in shed so it wasn't just a pick it up and carry it kind of job. We had to use the front end loader with the forks, chain it up to keep it teetering on them and then carefully drive it down the hill, hoping all the way that it didn't flip off as it's quite top heavy. As you might imagine, this was a bumpy ride for the coop. We got it in place -- well, mostly, it'll have to be adjusted tomorrow morning to get it leveled and straightened -- I popped the door open and peered inside expecting them to be all over the place in there. Much to my surprise they were all asleep -- in their usual places, even -- and unimpressed with my flashlight.

Funny you say that...My hens got on top of the wood pile this afternoon and could not figure how to get down. I had to go get them. Each one stepped onto my hand and I lowered them to the ground.
I think they were messing with me.

Well, I have a great nite! Its getting cold here! I think I might have to turn the heat on in my car tonight while I deliver the grand rapids press! I have heated seats too!

Have a nice holiday also!

They are very lucky chickens RaZ! My hens have been challenged to go through a gate or around a fence. It is confusing to them.

You are headed to my old stomping grounds. I love it out west. That was home for me until my husband moved me back here to his home area. Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, I was raised there. I love it here in Michigan, but Montana will always be home.
What a beautiful area. I wish I was going with you. Have a great time, bring back pictures. Lots of history there for you to see.

the girls have really taken nicely to their added room. I am really happy with it. What I find funny is that the baby chicks I got from Jerry in Ada have been bouncing all over their little room, which is about 1/4th of the shed. I thought they might just hover around where the heat lamp is but they love exploring. My DH now says there is alot more room to add chickens.

My BR is still not feeling well. She perked up earlier and I let her out of the brooder pen in the garage and she ran down to the coop and started eating. Later, however, I found her sleeping in the corner and when I picked her up she was hot so I put her back in the garage. I just checked on her and her temp is down and she got fiesty when while I was examing her. So that's a good sign. I'll leave her there to see what happens. What I know is that when she's in the coop she refuses to go out to drink but she does drink in the brooder pen.

LOL! yeah that.

I saw something crawling around in my bird poo on the poop tray.

I was traveling and couldnt get to it for a couple of days. They were grey, wiggling, and frightening. I don't know if they were grey naturally or if they were rolling around in the DE on the tray but they mad a mess of the poo and totally grossed me out, so I feel ya Nova. I had to walk in and out the coop a couple of times before I could decide what to do. Once I got it cleaned up it was all good but trust I had the dust mask on, soapy water, and was armed with big yellow rubber gloves.
