Sorry she didn't make it. Have you had any of your birds tested/autopsied? Seems like you've had more than your fair share of death, maybe there is something underlying.
Yes. Well, last month we did. ALL of the chicks we purchased at TSC died, but all of the ones from FFH survived.
The 3rd BO had peritonitis. I called TSC after the 2nd BO died for mysterious reasons and they were rude and didn't take me seriously. The manager just said "We only take in healthy birds so yours must have received something from the birds you already had" When I explained they never made it to the general population, she told me I must have purchased them from someone else!
The Polish definitely didn't survive the heatwave we had where it reached 104. Aric, my daughter and I took turns going outside to mist birds and freshen waterers, but we still lost 3 birds that day. I think the millie died for the same reason.
We have totally and completely cleaned out the coops (including the duck coop even though none (thankfully) of them have died) once every week or more to help keep disease down if that's the problem. But, if it was disease, I would have lost some smaller, weaker birds and I haven't so far. I have call ducks, many bantams, etc.
I honestly think it's been the heat. Definitely with the ones a few weeks ago and the one today. Oh and the serama hen might have been older, it was Vicki's for a while before I got her. She was sitting on the edge of the laying box and it looked like she fell off. I was standing right there when she fell off so I went to her and her head was floppy. She died seconds later. I had her almost a year.
SO, I don't know. I've been in the hospital a lot in the last couple of months so I haven't watched things as tightly as I usually do. I have very good records on all of our animals - purchase, eating, behavior, activity, etc. Aric doesn't understand how I keep my records so they have fallen behind since I've been sick.

Quite a difference in temperatures this morning, 20 degrees cooler than it was only two days ago. Fall has started and with the cooler temperatures it will be much easier for me to get a few things done. Today I will be canning shelled beans and picking and freezing some more sweet bell and hungarian peppers. Tomorrow, since its going to be another cool morning, will be a good day to press some apple cider. I've got a press that is all cast iron and steel that my oldest son bought for me at a estate farm sale in Missouri. I researched the company that made it and it went out of business in 1927 so its at least that old but I think it was actually made around 1900.

My geese and dog was going crazy, so I opened the gate up and let the dog run- couldnt see a darn thing in the dark. I heard the fence rattle- as in something leaving my yard...ran back grabbed a light, and the dog went to the fence barking his fool head off.
Its a family of skunks. They are eating a bag of dog food in my neighbors garage.
So, did they eat my crippled ducks or was it a raccoon? *eta after researching, I am going to guess that a raccoon was my culprit and these skunks didnt actually do the murdering.*
What threat is a skunk? I know they steal eggs, dont want them around- but do they kill chickens/ducks/geese? I cant imagine them being able to actually kill my geese, I would imagine they could kill the skunk.

I am off to work- pretty exciting out there this morning. The adrenaline is pumping. Should make me be productive at work.

You are headed to my old stomping grounds. I love it out west. That was home for me until my husband moved me back here to his home area. Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, I was raised there. I love it here in Michigan, but Montana will always be home.

Good morning people. It definitely is a chilly one. I was hit with a big gust of cold air when I went out to my coop a few minutes ago. Fall is coming and these temp changes are too quick but that is mother nature for you...She does what she wants!! Have great chilly day everyone!!
M2EM, I still think your culprit was a raccoon. Skunks can be a problem do your flock, eating eggs, chicks, and occasionally floor roosting birds, but they aren't as agressive as many other predators.
Wow it's brisky out there! :: shakes off the chill :: I think I need to switch over to the flannel pj bottoms.
Last night we hosted a movie in our driveway and showed Chicken Run on our garage door for the kids in our neighborhood. Not everyone showed up but I popped popcorn and had Koolaid. One mom brought brownies. I did have to run in for blankets because the temp dropped dramatically but it was a blast. Next time I will make hot chocolate.

What a beautiful autumn morning it is out there!
Too bad I'm not ready for summer to end...
We let the chickens out of their coop this morning, they all took off running in one direction (which now leads to the woods), ran about 30 feet, stopped dead in their racks, looked around for a minute, whipped around and started running the other direction.
