That sounds like what Blueberry is doing. Just for kicks I tossed her a couple of golfballs and she scootched them underneath her and did a cute little shimmy to get comfortable. Now I am sure she is broody. Since the day-old chick switcharoo didn't work with Blanche the DH and I are contemplating just giving the girl some eggs. Stay tuned. Film at 11.

Hello! Wow, I haven't been on here in ages- lots of new folks I don't know. Nice hawk Raz. We had a family of Sharp Shinned Hawks nest in our trees this summer. I appreciated that they left my chickens alone, and enjoyed listening to them call to each other.

I do have a question for you all- we have a 2 year old Yokohama rooster that is acting funny. He's moving a little slower than usual, stands still a lot and falls asleep. I've also noticed that we haven't heard him crow in a couple of weeks- although he's normally very quiet. He's in the middle of a heavy molt, and I should mention that I treated him with Poultry Dust last week as I noticed he has lice. Does anyone have any thoughts? I've never wormed ( I know, bad). Should I do that now, or wait? What do you all use for internal parasites? I adore this bird and can't imagine our flock without him. Henry is a very good rooster. As always, I appreciate your thoughts.

Edited because... I can't seem to type tonight.

Ok I caught Miss Isa. Amazing since she normally wouldn't even let me get her, she's a fast one. Well, anyway, I caught her and I have her in the house next to me in that cat carrier, or chicken confinement... Well, I felt her craw(?), and I turned her upside down and massaged it, just incase she's backed up... Well, it feels soft to me, but I haven't seen her eat at all today. I am trying to tempt her with apple sauce right now... I looked at her vent, looks good, and I also felt her around her lower abdomen area or what ever you call it, and no egg stuck feeling, so, I am fairly certain that is not it. She's kinda freaked out right now, chirping and pacing in the carrier... this is the most active I have seen her all day. It did get down to 42 here last night, and I am kinda wondering if the the change from 76 degrees over night 2 days ago to sudden 45-50 degree overnight didn't stress her out? I wasn't planning to worm till the end of the month, but maybe I should worm the whole group now? She's the only one acting funny.

What do you use worm? I am planning on doing my first worming here in a couple of weeks. Ive heard of hot pepper flakes to pumpkins ....

Longhorns&Chickens :

Hey I from Barry County and new to the Michigan thread! I have seen a few hawks hanging out in our yard lately, I'm guessing they're watching my chickens, not just enjoying the view

they are beautiful birds, but I think for now my girls will have to stay in the coop!!

Welcome to BYC and the michigan thread

I don't know yet... Figured when it came time, I'd ask for opinions on the best wormer. I figured I'd do it when I wouldn't have to many laying eggs, so I wouldn't have to many eggs to chuck. LOL

RaZ, A Coopershawk injured my RIR so badly, I had to put her down. The Zoo Vet watched as a hawk hit a heron in flight last week. Don't underestimate Gary. Put some chicken wire between him and your lovely hens!

Raz I do like hawks they are very handsome birds, how ever one took a dive at my chicks yesterday so be watchful. I think as it gets colder and food is more scares our birds will look even more interesting
