I am very jealous, the vine borers got all my squash and pumpkins this year. The only thing left is cabbage and jalepenos. Your chickens will be in heaven.

Oops, time to go sling some hash for the kiddies at school. Good day all!

Cost to walk into the building and spend the day looking around: zero. We would appreciate it if maybe you bought a hot dog or raffle ticket while you were there.

I could definately put away a hot dog or two:) Will there be birds for sale as well or is this just a show? I plan on coming either way.

Sounds like fun & something to do with the family...Thanks for the invite.

Yeah I was in Kroger the other day and they had Medium eggs for 2.49/doz. Brown.
Then someone told me a guy on M-15 (4 miles from me) was selling brown eggs at $3/doz. I want them to GO, not set her in the fr idge. I only have 6 layers right now, but when they all get to POL, I'll have 13 of them, by end of November if all goes well.

I hope the guy on M15 didn't buy mine to resell

, I'll have to stop by there and see who's running the place.

I want to try to get some regular customers (friends, family & clients of mine). I want to keep it on a small scale, keep it fun and I'll deliver them if I have to like my grandfather did. Right now I have 11 hens and one Roo. Not smart thinking on my part when it comes to making a dozen....guess that's what happens when you're kinda green at this yet. Anyway, when I do decide to sell I want mine to go also so I was thinking go below store price. The guy on M15, is he north or south of Munger Rd.? I don't live too far from Munger...in Portsmouth Township and haven't seen anyone selling. I'm assuming he's south of me. Munger is a small community and I'm sure your eggs will go once people in the area know you have them.

I do not know MSue, my husband said he saw the sign. Just asked him, he said it's SOUTH of M138, where theres a big red barn that has an ANTIQUES sign on it. It would be before you get to M81

well it WOULD be nice to make PROFIT, but my friends and family don't see eye to eye with you. They all think everything I do should come to them free, my garden produce, my crafts, I crochet, carve, photography, beading jewelry.
At least I can expect something back from total strangers, like enough to barely help with the cost of feed.
Seriously, when I want to put something up for winter, I have to go to a farm market and buy it cause I don't get nothing out of my garden except a backache and a sunburn. Wish other people saw it that way.

I currently price my eggs at $2.00 put they are mostly medium pullet eggs. I only have a few mature layers. Along with that we are seeding the market with free eggs by the half dozen. I figure it will all go to marketing and promotion cost.

Next Spring I do plan on increasing my prices but I haven't figured that all out yet.

Side note: I was contacted by Food & Water Watch about the 2012 Farm Bill. There is a meeting tonight here in Grand Rapids that I may attend to learn more about it. They have a factsheet located here http://www.foodandwaterwatch.org/factsheet/better-food-starts-with-the-farm-bill/. I believe they are working on getting our Senator to take a stand on it especially in regards to the protection of small scale/independent farmers from large agricultural monopolies (like Monsanto).

Have any of you read the whole bill? Just curious.

I see, that's way south of me. Anyway, get your signs out and start talking the talk. I know you'll have good luck! What about the little party store there? Have you thought about putting some extras in there? The party store near my mother's house has or had a few dozen of farm fresh eggs for sale along with regular store ones. I am almost positive I've seen them in there. I gonna stop and check it out just to be sure I wasn't dreaming. lol I'd like to see what they are priced at.

Isn't that the truth! We do all the work, spend all the time, etc. and they think it should be free. Last year we had an over abundance of tomatoes. My Dh planted way too many and we offered (free) them to every tom, dick & harry. Only a few true die hards came & got some. The rest wanted us to pick them for them too!!

People treat you the way you allow yourself to be treated. If you allow them to take advantage of your work and production for free or very little why would they pay you well? Prices also attract your clientele. Price yourself low, you will attract a low-paying clientele. You cannot wait for the world to decide you are worth what you believe you are worth, you must ask the price for yourself. No one else is going to do it for you. Value yourself first, others will follow suit.
