Ground parrots. Thats a good one.

Hope every one has has a good weekend. Its raining most the day here. I discovered that my chicken coop roof has a leak on one side. Yeah. Not really. SO, hopefully the day will be dry tomorrow and I can fix that. I don't know what I did wrong roofing it, but apparently I did some thing not quite right.

My Buffy has quit laying. She hasn't laid an egg in 5 days. I don't know whats up with that. She's not walking funny. She's not acting ill. She's eating and foraging like all the other chickens... SO, don't know. Her butt feathers are dirty, but so are some of the pullets, so I think that maybe from the rain and all the mud.

Going to be getting them a pumpkin this week. Get a worming on. I think maybe they will think I like them again. They have been quite gumbly the last few days since they have no more fresh fruit coming off the vine and cucumbers have quit. They got the last watermelon yesterday, but it was only about 2 pounds and not enough to make them happy. Oh well, I was surprised to even find it in the mess of dying vines.

What a crappy day... I wish it weren't raining. I'd like to have cleaned the garage up some more.

I have a craftsman riding lawn mower that I need to have fixed. It has a full battery, but you sit on it and turn the key... Nothing. No light comes on... Nothing. I was thinking maybe the starter? But wouldn't the headlight come on? Don't know. It worked when I shut it off last year. Had to mow this year with the push mower. Not complaining. I have a working mower. Ok, complaining a little bit. Its a big yard to mow. But I need to get it out of the garage and into the shed so I can park my car in the garage.. Wll not today now.

Well guess I will make up some pork loin for dinner.

NovaAman - Holland. How many chickens can you keep in Holland? Have a friend whose sister lives in Holland and has expressed a desire to keep chickens. Thought I would pass the info on.

Depends on where she is at. I am in a township, some townships do not allow them. She'd have to check where she is if it is allowed. Zoning for her house. My friend thought she could have chickens where she lived because there is a guy who lives a street over and 5 houses down has pigs and chickens. Turns out he's zoned ag and she's residence. So I ended up with her Silkie roos and Critter barn is ending up with her ducks.

Nova,
Check to see that the mower deck is NOT engaged.
I spent half a day trying to figure out why my new tractor would not start. I had the mower deck engaged.
So much for being an engineer...duh!

All this talk about hunting is sad for me. I finally meet someone who is willing to take me hunting (since he's been going since he was 9!), but we have nowhere to go. We find places on craigslist, but they want crazy fees to use their property. We can't hunt on the property that used to belong to Aric's grandparents (there used to be 400 acres attached to this property) but the new owners aren't so friendly. I told Aric last year I was going to find somewhere for us to go this year, but that didn't work out. Bummer. I used to go all the time with my former brother in law when I was a kid, but haven't been since. Hopefully this year our neighbor will let us dress out a deer he catches so at least we'll have a little meat.

So, today I've been busy painting. Fall is my favorite time of year for a lot of reasons, but my favorite is I always feel so much better and I'm able to walk and move better when it's colder. We found some nice doors with windows someone was throwing away so we took them, Aric fixed the dents and holes and I'm painting them. Good for another $30 ea! Tomorrow we go to Lansing to pick up a truck load of lumber to make more dog houses or chicken coops. That's thanks to my ad looking for lumber on craigslist. Life is good!

Probably safety switches. Or a fuse. Look underneath the seat, there should be a button or something (bare wires?) that should touch when you sit on the seat. If the wires don't touch, it won't start. One at the clutch peddle and blade control too. Or you can go on the Sears website and look for that model mower and find the owners manual (unless you have it) to find exactly where the safety switches are. Chances are pretty good that's what it is.

Unless it's like ours and it's the solenoid. Those can be expensive, especially for Craftsman!!

Puma, welcome to the michigan thread, a really busy crowd here. The michigan thread is the second busiest social thread on the website.

My mother just gave me an odd look as I brought my cuckoo araucana pullet to do the routine anti-poopy butt care for this particular bird. I guess giving a bird a 'bath' is a little out there for Mom! If I don't wash and trim bum feathers on this pullet, the poo will build up and likely will cause a potential blockage. I'll inconvenience the kitchen sink for 15 minutes to take care of my girl. Kinda funny, the pullet likes the bathing, I think! She doesn't attempt to escape and will stand nicely with her toes in the warm water as I wipe/rinse her clean and trim. Then she falls asleep while swaddled in a towel afterward drying off. She is such a sweetheart (and still doesn't have a name, I am so terrible when it comes to naming!).
