Good Morning Everyone....wow, I did a whole-lot-of reading this morning! lol Thank you everyone for the great information. I took notes & added to my to-do list. Always good to be friends with such knowledgeable people.
My good friend & daughter's trainer is getting a truck load of straw in a week or two. She needs it for decoration and jumps for her fall show. She said I can have whatever I need after the show. "Ask & You Shall Receive".....of course I'll offer her something for what I take.
HillybillyHen....nice looking eggs.
ChicwannaB......sounds like you might have a steady egg customer, Good for you!! Your dogs are cute also. Sounds like I won't be seeing you at the show but what you are doing for the op in need is very kind & thoughtful!
Gotta get going, need to get things done so I can head to the show. My daughter and I are wearing T-shirts I had made that say in white lettering.... "Got Eggs" with a chicken & egg on them! My son hasn't seen them yet but I know he'll rool his eyes!! Good day All.

Where's Fowlfest? Been too busy to be online lately, the weather is too nice, eh? Between bowhunting, cutting fields, tearing down gardens, and painting houses I barely have time this morning to read old posts.

Good Morning!

Everyone going to Fowl Fest have fun! Hey, and take some BYC pictures so we can all be envious!

Chrysanthemum cinerariifolium (Trevir.) Vis. is the flower that Pyrethrin comes from.
The chemical compostion of it is pretty cool in how is acts to kill insects. I'm no chemist but I am a plant guy so I had to look it up. The toxicity of chemical breaks down rapidly when exposed to light and oxygen (air) so it considered to be one of the safer insecticides available. Its use is permitted in resturants and food processing facilities.

In the 1800's a powder was made from the seeds, called "Persian Powder", to repel bugs. Then 2 chemists learned how to synthesise it in the 1920s and the commercial product was created. It mostly comes from Kenya where the flower is a cash crop for farmers.

I don't use any chemicals around my house and yard except for Dawn dish soap, but I'd consider using this if I run into a pest problem that soap & water can't solve.

Now that I've had my coffee and morning diversion, I better get busy with real homework and those pesky neglected chores. The sooner they are done the sooner I can have a beer. Oh, wait, I'm a grown-up, I can have a beer while doing chores.

I took one out with me while doing chores the other day. I was getting down to the bottom of the bottle and it was getting a bit warm, went to share with the pigs but then realized other than 1 boar, they're all either pregnant or underage.

Fowlfest had a lot of nice looking birds. Talked to Wynotte, the Chickendads and got to meet M.Sue. Nice folks!
Didnt bring anything home. I have a full house (coops) and it broke my heart. There were nice Austrolorps there I would have like. O'well

Here is a pic of the stuff. I use it too. I mix some up in a plastic tub and dip the chickens in it I give them a good soak and make sure it gets under their wings and around their tail feathers. I then completely clean out the coops and mix this up in a sprayer and spray down the coops real well. Let dry and then put clean shavings and DE back in the coop. I try to get started on this in the morning so the chickens will have the day to get dry, not to mention it takes me all day to do this.

I gave some of my ladies baths during the hot part of the day. I used some dog shampoo in the water so when the lice/mites drown they fall to the bottom of the bucket. Otherwise they float on the top and get back on hen or on your arms. It works good to get rid of the little devils.
