My timer is SHOT! I wanted to go to bed at 8:30 last night just cuz it was dark out! OMG! My kids timers are working right though... Oh to be 2 and 5... well almost 3 and 6...

misslady, welcome, I am in Holland also! On the northside. I totally refused to wear dutch costumes and wooden shoes at Tulip Time. I did one year. Totally hated it. LOL. I prefered to RUN LIKE HECK! Oh, still do. lol

I'd gladly send you some Grandma, it does smell good. and dried to a perfect "snap" this morning. I have alot to learn tho, this being my first batch. Shouldn't have draped over multiple rods as it dried in that formation and I had to snap them up to put in storage bags.

the pasta machine didn't give instructions for the drying part of it. I'm pretty much self-taught on everything.

Misslady!! Glad you found us chicken addicts!! You're in good hands here.
Taprock, glad your girl came back home. We worry so much over our girls.
Angela, I wish I could see Adison's (sp) face when she sees the silkies! How are the silkies doing? They have great personalities!!
Still raining on and off

I let the chickens out tho. Their run was getting so muddy and so were they. Opened up the garage so they can hang out in there and then go out and get some grass in between all the rain. Hope it clears up soon.
Have a good day..

She called them dogs. I think she thought they were puppies! Lmao. I would bring them in the house if knew my cats would behave.

Does anyone know any EE breeders?

Bingo! Holland it is. Got to love good ol' Tulip time, although I haven't klompen danced since high school. My biggest gripe? The traffic is horrible during tulip time! I usually take my kids down there for a day and then avoid downtown as much as possible after that.

Now that we moved out of town it's a lot easier to do so.

When I bought an incubator I think most of my friends thought I was crazy, however come hatch day they all rushed over to watch or were asking me to send them pictures. Seems I'm not so crazy after all!

But I do foresee more coops being built in the near future, incubating is SO exciting! My poor husband, I put him to work on all these projects all the time. I just tell him it keeps him fit.

However I am currently trying to build a small coop on my own for my Sizzle eggs when they hatch with low roosts and nesting boxes... let me tell you I am no carpenter, but it's starting to look like something! (couldn't tell ya what though!

And thanks for all the warm welcome's everyone! It's so nice to be here.

I'm on the forum's about 10 times a day right now so hopefully I can keep up. I'll make sure to check back often.

Fingers crossed we get some sunshine soon!

We did our first chicken surgery today. I noticed that when the girls were going to bed last night that one of them was on one foot and the other was swollen. I read up on bumble foot and decided that was the problem. I really didn't have much for first aid supplies even though I told myself I should have some of the stuff on hand. The vet sold me some vetwrap for $2 and gave me some iodine gel to wash the foot after we soaked it. Got new blades for the exacto knife and I had Neosporin. We went with the instructions on this site and another and it went pretty well, except I really don't know if we got it all. She did eat some egg and watery mash after, but I am concerned that she has barely pooped and isn't drinking much. It has been a traumatic experience for me and the little red hen. Earlier in the week I had a hen that was acting ill and I soaked her in warm water and dried her with the hair dryer and she layed an egg and was good as new. I am not sure what will happen with this one.

Wow, you are brave! You and the hen!
One thought I had was that when my hen recovered from bumble foot, we had her on Baytril for a week during the healing. We also gave her probiotics. Hope that helps you!

A lady in Hudsonville Michigan contacted me. She has one Belgium D'Uccle Bantam hen. I cannot take her but I wanted to let you all know that she is looking for a home.
She is not a tame bantam and she has lived with other ducks, geese and chickens. Her owner would like her to be with bantams before she gets stepped on by the bigger birds.
Just let me know if anyone is interested!
