Just a little morning excitement. I heard that chicken alarm call and looked out the back door. My golden retriever got into the hen run and is sitting there looking at the BSL hens who are now outside the run. Run out, barefoot mind you, bring Maggie back in to the house. Put on shoes, go back out for chicken round-up. Broil is sitting on the lawn sweeper and climbs up my arm to sit on my shoulder. I see the Buffs in my neighbor's yard sitting on her pool railing. If she sees that, I'm sunk for sure.

Anywho, go into the coop for the treat bag to entice the BOs home and by the time I come back out, they are there waiting for me, all 4 girls, lined up in a semi-circle. So after a few worms and a grope, everyone is back to normal. Mini-crisis averted.

I can't figure out how Maggie got into the run in the first place.

HELP NOW URGENT????? !!!!
I Have a seven month old buff orp that came out of the run this AM at about 11 with her flock mates. Her activity seems normal to me but she sounds like a softlu crying whimpering baby. Each breath comes with a wheese both in and out. Sounds sorte like an old pump handle that needs lubed. What to do? All other (4) hens seem fine . I've been readin BYC medical stuff but There is so much of it. I'm scared witless what with the recent losses of Fife && Daron .

It's been several days now since my sincere scare. The suspect is well and all the other girls are fine too. Thanks to those who offered suggestions and support. Youse is good people.

Look back into Fife's post the from the other day and see what she gave her girls...she added it to their water. Try not to panic, hopefully it's something correctable! There is a guy who I've seen several posts from on different threads, seems to be very knowledgeable about treating illnesses & injuries. Can't remember name, Dawg something from down south I think. Maybe Olive or Grandma can give some advice.

Found it....It's Dawg53....don't know if he works duing the day or not.

Bob, It sounds like she probably has infectious bronchitis. You need to isolate her from the others to a warm dry location and give her vitamin suppliments in her water. I would recommend using Poultry Drench of something comparable. Poultry Drench come with a bulb syringe dispenser and I normally add one eye dropper per quart of water but I will give the bird a 50/50 mixture 3 m/l dose orally the first day.

If you have a flock & they are well fed & basically healthy, not exposed to other animals/chickens....where do they get this stuff from? Is it airborn like the stuff humans get? Can they get it from humans...passed on?
