I'll be praying for Cindy. Glad she is o.k. The most important thing (Cindy) was not lost.
Losing everything........well there is a lot of freedom in that.

This is my son's first year and it is great to watch his excitement. He has his sights set on a crooked spike they have seen on the trail cam. It's not much to look at but it's the one he wants to get. To my great joy, he is using my gun so I can't go out!

However I do have the hubby's 308 (the heavy thing) and the window overlooking the back field. If any bucks are dumb enough to wander through while I'm baking I'm ready for them.

OHHH and I got my first egg from my bantam salmon faverolle today!!!

I saw her squat for a rooster two days ago so I put her in the nest box for her to check out. Today the little sweety laid a tiny little egg IN THE NEST BOX! The biggest problem is that my Welsummer roo is interested in her and he is huge.

Welcome to the many new faces/names.

Good Morning Everyone.....Welcome to the thread Fuzzybutt!!

Morning Michigan! DH is out for most the day waiting for the elusive buck as many of you and your families are doing too. Good luck hunters!
I want to say welcome also to judysim and fuzzybutt....you will enjoy trying to keep up with the chatty Michigan group!

Daughter of Eve...sorry about your roo. I have heard of something called bumblefoot.....maybe it is that?? On a "health" note...my DH held 4 of my chickens yesterday morning while I did throat swabs to express mail off to MSU lab. I hope to hear something the end of the week possibly. Last night the coop door hadn't closed yet and the light was still on in the coop (goes off at 6pm) ...I was heading back to the house and heard a RUCKUS!! BIG time...and I saw one of the chickens hit the window (like trying to fly out). I run back to the coop and the huge English Orp roo was after my Jersey giant roo. He continued even after I came in and told them to knock it off. So I scooped up the 6 month old jersey and put him into my cleaned, sanitized and newly lime painted coop.
hmm.png
The dust was flying thick everywhere in the coop. (a tiny ray again of hope...maybe dust made them sneeze?) Anyway...if they have MG or MS they will be meat in the freezer but meanwhile my jersey roo will sleep alone in my once pristine coop. I will put him in the run with the gang this morning and continue to do so I guess.

Daughter of Eve.. hope you get better soon and I will pray for Cindy. Hopefully she has lots of friends and family that will assist.

The Coop King and the Wanna BE Coop King... Adventures in Roo-ville.

This lovely sunny, fog is clearing morning, I let out the chickenses... Everyone is so happy to get out... There is a huge pile of shaving under the coop where they thought it would look better. AND the window seat is still in place, and Buffy is still on the light. Mr Fluffers, the King, decides he going to be the food lady tripper this morning, so all the ladies follow suit. Well, most of the ladies. Buffy has yet to get off the light, and Leila headed for the feed container. YEAH! Until the wanna be King... AKA the junior Rapist... Decides he needs to get her! ANd he needs to get Buffy only Buffy kick his tiny butt, so he sticks to Leila. Mr Fluffers just looks on like an indulgent PAPA chicken. Worthless Roo...

SO proud of himself...

Until he starts a fight with Roger, which brings big worthless who decides he's going to step in and stop the fight... And yes, he did stop the fight. Roger went one way, Oscar the other, only AFTER he tried to get a head shot in at Mr FLuffers...

102729_nov15_004.jpg
Now, don't you think that'd be like... I don't know, suicidal? LOOK AT HIM! He's a not even 3 pound ball of manliness up against a 6-7 pound brute! Come on now! Rub those two peas together and think Oscar!

On another note, I do think I am going to move Roger and Leila to their own coop in the garage. Leila seems to be on the low end of the pecking order now that her sister is gone. Minnie was top grouch till the hawk, and Leila enjoyed the benifits of her sisters bad attitude... Now, thou... And she and Roger get along great... Why the garage? Well, the coop they will be in, I worry that it will not be good inthe snow, but in the garage it will be protected and they'll be able to stay warm enough in there but still have access to the outside thru the dog pop up or the cat door... Just a thought after observing this mornings goings on...

There's no way I'm going to be able to catch up on all the pages I missed so I will just say: Welcome to all who are new and condolences to all who have had losses while I was gone.

I have been MIA the past week largely due to traveling to Kansas for the ALBC conference. I arranged to pick up a breeding gilt from a farm in IL on the way back so we drove out and on the way out there we went across northern MO and KS and I thought of all of you the entire drive across 36 (I think that's right, I'm running on empty at this point. LOL!) I hate to be the bearer of bad news but no one here is allowed to complain about hawks anymore.
wink.png
I haven't yet tried to look up the breed but all across there they have these HUGE hawks who are, apparently, thriving as there was one no less than every third mile all the way across MO and halfway across KS. These birds were probably 3/4 the size of our Juvenile Bald Eagles. Absolutely beautiful and amazing, but would definitely have some BYCers keeping their girls under lock and key. We have it pretty good in comparison, from what I saw.

Not so funny if some hunk of lead actuall hits ya, or even comes close. I hit the hunting trail for fifty nine years with great enthusiasm and excitement. Don't know if I don't go now cause I can't or just don't want to now. BUT Yall who want to.--- Have at it & good luck, be safe.

Hard to believe that just a few weeks ago I was anxious about getting eggs. Right now there are 26 sitting on the counter with 2 more due this afternoon.
A girl from school was supposed to get a dozen over the weekend but she was a no-show. I'll have to take them to school tomorrow for her. It sure raises some eyebrows to see a biker walking across campus with an egg-basket in hand.
