Yea, I definitely pulled them apart as soon as I snapped the picture. He was only on her for a few seconds. She seemed glad when I picked her up for some cuddles and treats out of my hand. It is weird because I have a turkey hen, what would make the tom decide to mount the pullet?

Holy toot.....turkeys & chickens, a lot was happening on here yesterday.

Today doesn't look like it's gonna be that nice but I still can bundle up & get out. Work again today and hoping I can get out early. Planning on going and getting a few more bales of straw for the winter renovation on the coop. I'm going to put some straw down in the run for the chickens have practically eaten all the grass and it is starting to look a little muddy. Never had to worry before about a muddy run because we always moved it every 2-3 weeks but with it being stationary for the winter....that's a different story. I figured the straw would be easy to rake up in the spring.

Have a great day everyone!!

M.Sue, I have mud issues now! I just threw some of my pine shavings down. I saw a bail of hay that had fallen off a truck or something yesterday while I was deilvering. I figure, if it's still there today, then its free for the taking right? I will put that down repeatedly thru the winter around the coop.

Good idea there for training the roo not to go after the little ones. I acturally did that this morning, minus the slammng part. I just chased Oscar everytime he got near Leila. AND then for good measure, I chase his black feathered butt all over the yard. Poor Leila has a huge bald spot on her poor noggin where he keeps grabbing hold of her trying to mount. Well anyway, going to solve that pretty today anyway. Gonna give the silkies their own area and coop. It'll mean I will have to put them in the coop for a few nights, but thats ok... She'll not be scalped anymore!

My little boy woke up in the middle of the night freaking out cuz he had a dream.... He dreamed he pooped his pants and it got all over his pillow. So I check him and he's not poopy. He says he needed a new pillow cuz it was poopy so I had to show him it wasn't poopy but he wasn't happy until I flipped it over, then he giggled like a maniac and fell back t sleep... OOOOOKAAAAAy.

I did forget to mention that I did section off the run so they could all see eachother for at least a week first.

They can seem them. The silkies are in a big cage in the coop, and they get lots of exposure to each other. So, that's not a problem.

I really do like that tote idea. I have some small totes, that will work great.

Also, found out that my bigger chickens LOVE pomagranate seeds! They fought over them!

Angela, I go into Lansing every week. If Jen is willing to meet me in Lansing some Wed, I'll be glad to pick them up for you. Not next Wed cuz it's the day before Thanksgiving, but any other time..... so if you two work anything out, let me know.
I don't know if you noticed while you were here, Angela, but I use pet taxis as cover for the smaller hens to hide under. I take them apart and now you have two hide aways. There are several sizes out there. Get them at garage sales for a steal. My bunnes love hiding under them too.

Daughter of Eve,

I'm not good at keeping up with posts or making them ,for that matter. Hope Cindys' recovery is swift and her pain minimal. She is in my prayers too.

I checked your BYC page and your set up is cool. Noticed close proximity of pens and something about adding to flock.? Maybe greater separation would be better health wise. Just a thought. Don't know if I have enough room for that sort of thing in the back yard.

Best to u.
