can't eat them right now any how. we are still treating sick birds. The first hen to get sick was having a very hard time she is back in the basement. I have been giving her honey water. as the 5 day treatment is up. I had to force feed her for 2 days. now she is drinking by her self and eating a little, even getting a little spunk back. I think she will make it. between the stongyles, coccidia and molting it has been a rough fall. Hope the next 3 years will be free of sickness like the first 3. Thanks again to chickengrandma for the help with the vet. Maybe if more people pester TSC and Farm and home to get chicken meds, it wouldn't be so hard to find. I have come to the conclusion that to many people with chickens, just let them die if they get sick then buy more. problem with that is they never get the problem solved; cause they don't know what the problem was in the first place. Too many people like the ones fuzzy met. Chickmate were did you get your Marans? I got mine form Jerry Canfield in Ada. would like to get more next spring. They are such pretty birds and very gentle .

Fife - YEAH!! I am glad the results came back agreeable.

Chickmate - the lime was hilarious. I can't wait until my Marans start laying! Your eggs are sooo pretty.

Raz - Congrats on the green egg! It's so fun to see all the different colors.

I got the heated dog bowls plugged in. The girls decided that they would like to play in it instead of drinking from it though.

....I am not sure what all the excitement was about but standing in the water bowl is NOT acceptable behavior.

we came home from deer camp this evening. Hunted 2 days and filled 2 of the tags. Wanted to get these two hung up and skinned and start processing them. We're going to give one, the larger doe, to my son and family and kep the small one I bagged for our own use. The first two days were great up there but it turned cold and started snowing today. I'm glad to be back. DOn't know when hubby may want to head back up and try to fill the two buck tags. I missed my chickies.

It took me a minute to figure out the lime was there, lol. I like how you date your eggs as well.

Opa- I was extremely agitated this evening, but after catching up on pages and reading your funny posts, I really need to say thank you for the chuckles.

My egg count has been very wonky for the past week now. A little over a week ago, I was getting 16-18 a day (which was up from 8-10), but now I've only gotten 3-5 a day for about the past 5 days. It's really made me wonder what I'm doing wrong to get so few eggs now. Of course, I've been very busy lately and haven't spent very much time with them so perhaps it's out of protest that the lady with the treats hardly ever shows...

Well, looks like its time to get the heated waterer on. The water was froze over in the coop this morning. However, for the first time since the light has been on, the Girls were in the underrun waiting for me. I guess they saw the sun and decided that today would be a good day. I think they are right. A bit windy, but otherwise a nice looking day.

I have to build a more solid chicken barrier. I got home yesterday and several of the girls were inside the enclosure for Roger and Leila... AND thats ok. They don't bother Rog and Leila... BUT Oscar... ROTTEN LITTLE OSCAR! And thats not all. MR FLUFFERS! He flew his fat butt up to the top of the fence, which brought the whole dang thing down. Decided that he liked their little coop and planted his big butt in there. GOOD thing about that? Leila was stuck in the corner next to him and Oscar could not get at her. HAHAHA. Think maybe Mr FLuffers was guarding her? I like to think that, only because Mr Fluffers can be a real jerkapus some days. Not to me, and not to the boys. But he can be, well like he making sure every one knows he still the boss and they better listen up. Not mean though. None of my girls has ever been attacked by him. He just does that loud, barking, screaching, grumbling noise, and everyone steers clear.

Speaking of noises... Has anyone else ever heard their roo's do and egg song? Last night, I hear the egg song going again about 4:30, and so I go and see which girl is trying to lay her egg in the tree line. It was Mr Fluffers! I was surprised! He was just going on and on and on. And half the girls were just standing there looking at him. I think they were wondering if he was about to pop a squat or something.

What does a chicken sneeze sound like? I have read that several of you have chickies with chicken colds... SO, was wondering what it sounds like.
