Venison...Yum!

Recipe for city slickers (even my Florida girlie friends like this one)

Venison backstrap...marinate in terryaki sauce....wrap in bacon...grill on outside grill. DELICIOUS. No game taste. Really.

Quiet here this morning. I've drunk the remaining coffee from last night so I think it's time to brew a new pot. Anyone ready for a cup?

Won't be on too much this weekend. Headed up to Port Hope, for a Girls' Hunting Weekend! (Well my hubby is going, but he is sitting with my 11 year old daughter) I am sitting with our 14 year old "4th daughter". Her and I will both be hunting, but taking turns over the weekend. I will have my iPad, so I will check in. I hate to miss too many days, there are so many posts to keep up with!

I will be taking lots of pics of my baby! (My rooster, that went to live on the farm) I miss him! He's so big though. My daughters are afraid of him.

NO, no coffee for me. I am going to bed! Just got in, let the chickens free since they were already in the under run, locked them out of the garage so Mr. Fluffy big butt won't get in there and wake my mom up by crowing right under her bed. LOL. I bed she's gonna be pissedola at me though. He's crowing outside her winder. LOL. Not as bad as under her room though. Loud mouthed roo. LOL. I love hearing him. So loud and high pitched and clear. Rogers is deeper... Almost sounds like he's got larengytis. I see while I am here that the neighbor has let hers out too. SOON it will be 5 roos a crowing. And a partrige in a pear tree!

Anyway, Thanks for the recipe teeville. I am thinking that my boys might have fun helping me make that, especially if they are in control of the marshmellows. Almost tempted to get the colored ones just for the "Festivity" of it. Not the peeps though... that's just creepy.

Happy Saturday!

Good Morning.....quiet here also and second cup of coffee. Hopefully the sun will pop out today. I'm gonna spread some straw on the ground in the run to keep it from turning into a mud hole. I'm also plugging in my heated waterer. Yesterday I filled the waterer with warm water and couldn't believe how much they drank.

Nice does ChicwannaB and glad to hear your good news Fife.

For cooking venison the trick is to cook it on low & very slow. If it's cooked fast then it'll taste gamey. I always add a tbs. of lemon juice to the ground burger when making chili, lasagna, tacos...whatever. We process our own deer (except grind) and my DH is very picky as to getting every piece spotless. I love the fact that I can take a package of meat, thaw it and throw into a pan without having to trim/remove any excess fat/skin or drain any off. I know some have had a bad experience with eating venison but it is most likely due to what the animal was feeding on (swamp deer) and the way it was processed. If you don't process your own a lot of butchers will process them but they also wait till they have several on hand before running it through the grinder....hench you don't know if the other were cleaned as well our own. Our butcher grinds each deer individually so you know you are getting your own meat back.

It's quiet here too. Just enjoying the coffe and my lap warmer (bichon). lol My DH has been out hunting for the last couple of days but promises to be home to celebrate our 1 year anniversary

Morning, ya'll. Not so quiet here. Loud egg songs carrying on the cool, crisp breeze.
I slept in late today (9:00 am) and apparently so did the chickens. There were no eggs waiting but Nugget (bantie) is sitting in a nest box while Gravy was outside with the big girls.

I miss hunting. Haven't been able to go since I went back to school. Maybe I can arrow a December deer after the semester is over.

Going to try to get the wood stove put in today. Not looking forward to being on the roof cutting the chimney hole.

About all we ever see where we hunt is does. COming out of the woods both evenings I counted 11 sets of eyes in the field, but that was after dark with a flashlight. Most of the big bucks are taken during bow season and we don't bow hunt. I use a 308 and so does my DH. I've only gotten 2 bucks in 13 seasons of hunting there. One 7' spike and a 6 point. A few button bucks, but you never now what they are till you walk out to them.
We have the 2 buck tags yet to fill, may go out muzzle-load season, we don't know yet.

Another green egg! 33 grams from Nugget. A big egg relative to her small frame.

Now about getting those Jersey Giants and/or Copper Marans.
