Morning All

Started sorting wood for my coop last night. Will using preassure treated lumber have any adverse effect on chickens? Some of it is the older preassure treated. I'm planning on building it out of my scrap lumber pile. Trying to make something usefull out of my previous project leftovers.

Good Morning!! Forgot to answer the person that asked about my avartar. I was trying to remember where I got it from... and I can't. Some site that had a bunch of different ones. Know Krisrose got it from the same place. Maybe she'll chime in and answer. Google chicken avartars and see what comes up.

The chickens part of the farm. Not the chickens altogether. I own/operate a small diversified farm. As it is we raise hundreds and hundreds of chickens per year for meat and keep a decent sized laying flock for eggs for the farm.

Right now we don't keep any chickens for ourselves, really. The chicken and eggs we eat are chickens and eggs we've raised, of course, but they are not for enjoyment in any way shape or form. And after many years at this it is really, really, really NOT enjoyment. For that and a myriad of other much more business-related reasons that I won't bore you with, the chicken part of the farm is being phased out in 2012.

We fully intend to continue to have chickens. The flock will just be much smaller and for our personal use and enjoyment only. This frees me up some in the choosing of breeds as production will no longer be of a primary concern and neither will initial inputs. In other words, I can pick some of the fancier breeds that I like even if they cost more up front and don't grow as efficiently or lay as many eggs.
