Hopefully this will work

Very pretty. I might be interested in some in the spring. I'll let you know for sure when the time comes. We'll have to pick and choose some breeds or the flock won't actually end up any smaller.

It's definitely fun trying out different breeds. My favorite are Cochins. The Partridge variety, to be precise.

I'd like to try Barnevelders and Red Caps. My husband has requested that I get him a few silkies. And I've promised the girls some more EEs in the spring so we're definitely going to have to prioritize at some point. It'll be nice to just have a few for "fun" though. It's time...

Good for you Olive. It is so much more enjoyable when you can just do it for fun. I have my laying flock that I sell eggs from and then I have my others that are here just because I enjoy them. My favorites are my Marans and then my crazy Lakenvelders. I enjoy my chickens so much.

Only if your chickens turn into woodpeckers and eat it all.

Using PT wood is fine, even the older PT wood is OK. The reports of its toxicity were overstated. Anyone remember the saccharine and red-dye scares of the 70's?

I would be a little more concerned with using the OSB. Not so much for the formaldehyde glue in it, more for the fact that the chickens can peck off pieces of it if they get bored or curious. Then again, I not much of a fan of OSB since I fell through an OSB roof.

BTW I built my garage coop with recycled/reclaimed lumber. All except for a few piece of lattice and 2 light fixtures. Total dollars spent was less than $30.

Thanks.

Lakenvelders lay white eggs, right?

To be perfectly honest...

*whispers* I don't know that I will ever really "enjoy" chickens

... they're just really not my thing. Love my geese, adore my turkeys. Chickens... meh. I'm certainly not consuming store bought chicken and eggs though so they'll be here. And I am very much looking forward to being done with them on a professional level.

Good for you! I myself am hooked on EE's; they are the ones who follow me around and scoot into my lap when they get a chance! should be loads of fun for the girls.
